Divers love exploring the waters of the vast ocean. There are so many surfaces and animals to discover if they’re willing.

Gary Grayson is an experienced diver from Salford, United Kingdom. He has already been diving for years when he and his diving buddy decided to dive in 2014 in the Isles of Scilly, off the Cornish coast in southwest England. It was a popular spot for divers and they wanted to find out for themselves why it was so popular.

Gary and his buddy knew what to expect from their years of experience.

They were going to see different corals, fishes, and sea vegetation. Of course, they might see animals or other corals out of the ordinary but they weren’t expecting it to happen.

Imagine their surprise when they see a couple of grey seals swimming towards them!

Now, seals are generally friendly towards humans. But not all seals behave this way. Gary and his buddy didn’t know how the seals were going to react when they saw the humans so they stayed as non-threatening as possible.

The divers waited for the seals to react but it seems the seals sensed that the two divers weren’t dangerous at all.

Well, guess what one of the seals did?

Not only did he show off and spun around to the divers but he held out his fins, hoping the divers will shake it. The seal explored Gary’s hand and arm and when Gary held his back, the seal loved it!

“I had seen other seals in the water but they just buzzed past us. None was as inquisitive as he was, and none as friendly. We were told just to sit on the bottom of the kelp but the more still we were the more inquisitive this seal was because we were in their world,” Gary told Manchester Evening News.

When they got a good look at the seals, the divers realized they were still baby seals and they were looking for playmates. And they found their playmates in the two divers.

Loving the rub Gary gave him, the seal even arched his back to show his pleasure.

Gary started to rub his belly and the seal loved it even more!

The other seal wanted to play with Gary, too, but he was so preoccupied with the first seal that he didn’t notice him. Hopefully, the other seal was able to get his playtime, too!

And, especially since he saw the other seal having the time of his life. In fact, the first seal looked like he was smiling the whole time.

Eventually, he got up again and start to play with Gary’s arm.

It’s a good thing Gary was wearing a wetsuit and gloves because the seal was biting his arm. Although it might have started to hurt a bit because Gary stroked the seal’s throat to distract him. Or maybe he was afraid the seal would bite through his glove eventually.

Well, his plan worked though. The seal was distracted and he just lay back and enjoyed Gary’s rubs.

“I’m an experienced diver but I have never known anything like that. I’ve been all over the world, to Mexico and Cuba, to dive with great big mantras and sharks. I’m not one to frighten easy,” Gary told M.E.N. “If the truth be told, I’m a bit of an adrenalin junky. Before that, I was into sky-diving, I had done aerobatics. I tend to live life on the edge. But this was certainly up there with anything I have ever done.”
