Elderly grandmother working at McDonalds cries while receiving the ultimate “Secret Santa” gifts

A man in east Idaho decided to play Secret Santa this year – but in a way that doesn’t leave people with a bunch of stuff they don’t need. Instead, he’s giving away cash (and a few other luxury goodies).

EastIdahoNews.com has teamed up with the anonymous local to give away a whopping $500,000 to those who deserve a little extra sparkle in their holiday.

According to the news outlet:

“Secret Santa is a real person who wants to remain anonymous and hopes to help as many people as he can.
We will be surprising deserving people and families every day from now until Christmas with gifts unique to their circumstances.”

A trip to McDonald’s

Diana Boldman and her husband, Cameron, are two of the people chosen for the surprise gifts. They had already heard about it on the news but had no idea anyone had them in mind for such a treat.

The Boldmans are both 65 and still working hard, with retirement a luxury they simply can’t afford (as it is for so many these days).

The couple wakes up each morning at the crack of dawn to deliver newspapers in their old van, which is miraculously still running despite the almost 240,000 miles on it! And they cover a pretty big area each day.

But that’s not all. After the papers are delivered, Mrs. Boldman heads off to her full-time job at McDonald’s. Since her husband is on disability, she needs to bring in the extra income they need to build a big enough nest egg to hopefully retire in the next few years.

The big surprise

The news outlet simply said, “Secret Santa heard about the Boldmans and asked the East Idaho News elves to drop by an early Christmas gift.”

As the news team walked into the fast-food restaurant, Mrs. Boldman was preparing french fries.

Needless to say, she was pretty surprised when she turned around and saw the camera pointed at her.

As she met Nate from the local news, she recognized him immediately. But she could not have prepared for what he was about to hand her.

The big reveal

It was almost time for the end of her shift and Boldman didn’t seem entirely sure it was ok to take a break, but the cameras soon made it mandatory as we see other workers coming to fill in behind her.

As Nate explains the Secret Santa concept, she says “Oh, I’ve seen this on your videos before.” She knows what’s up, but it’s hard to imagine what might be in that box.

This all took place before Thanksgiving, so the gifts were meant to start their whole holiday season off right. The first surprises come in a little green box, and Diana reads about her good fortune.

Nate explains that not only are there $5,000 worth of gas gift cards, in there, but a $1,000 check. She’s astonished.

That will certainly help get Christmas off to a good start. But some of that $1,000 is meant to help her enjoy the couple’s biggest gift.

The final gift

As she’s led out of the store she’s presented with a brand new red SUV! (Some of that check is to help with the cost of registration and insurance.)

It’s all hard to take in as she tries to figure out all the bells and whistles on her surprise.

But she’s clearly overwhelmed and overjoyed.

“Tell the Secret Santa thank you ever so much,” Boldman tells Nate.

It’s a very thing to do for a hard-working woman – and Secret Santa’s choice to reward the Bordman’s certainly put a big smile on our face.
