Rescuers find senior dog abandoned alongside a heartbreaking 7-word note
Many senior dogs who end up in shelters were once loving companions to elderly people who died or had to move to an aged care facility. However, some owners decide to simply abandon their senior dogs because they can no longer care for them.
Perryâs story will make you cry.
In July 2020, a Pyrenees dog from Cazenovia was left tied to a sled outside the Wanderersâ Rest Humane Association overnight.
The dog was given a bucket of water, and there was a note left by his side.
The note said: âOver 10 yrs old. Can no longer walk.â
When Mason Groesbeck, animal care coordinator at Wanderersâ Rest Humane Association, found him, the dog couldnât move at all.
The dog seemed utterly depressed.
âHe was just sad,â said Mason.
He didnât have the will to do anything.
Itâs completely understandable. Imagine being abandoned by a companion of over a decade.
Wanderersâ Association staff couldnât just leave the dog outside. They took him in and took proper care of him.
They named the dog Perry.
The vet decided to post Perryâs story on Facebook to raise donations for his medical bills.
Soon, Perry stole the hearts of thousands of people who couldnât believe that someone was able to just leave him behind like that.
Donations were pouring from everywhere, and WRHA doctors soon had enough money to pay for laser treatments to help Perry walk again.
The dog also underwent physical therapy sessions with the goal of full rehabilitation.
Perryâs caretakers later found out that the doggo had two forms of Lyme disease forms. His fur was so matted that it stuck to his skin.
That was one of the reasons why it was so difficult for Perry to start walking again.
Once they shaved his fur, things became much easier for him.
New updates are regularly being posted on the Associationâs Facebook page. People were thrilled to see that Perry was getting better.
One of Facebook users commented: â I would love to adopt this handsome guy and love him until the end of time! I have had several senior dogs with temporary paralysis due to high Lyme titers.â
We agree Perry deserves a lot of love and a warm home.
Today, Perryâs feeling a lot better, and heâs able to walk with a little help
The most recent video shows Perry lifting his back feet on his own. It is huge progress. Many people have been asking if Perry will be available for adoption, and we hope that heâll find a loving family soon.
As for those people who abandoned this pretty boy, we hope that someone will speak up. Society needs to know about them to prevent them from getting another animal and neglecting it the same way. Animals deserve our love because they give twice as much love back.
