Senior dog is abandoned in woman’s yard with a sad note

Most stories of abandoned dogs are just heartbreaking. They often come with tales of abuse and neglect that are just hard to understand when you’re passionate about pets.

The story of a 13-year-old Dachshund mix is a bit different.

Reese was abandoned on a stranger’s property. However, unlike most abandoned pets, she was left with a handwritten note.

It said:

“To You:

My name is Reese. I am 13-years-old and I do not like little kids. I love to chill. I hope whoever gets this [will] please take care of my dog. I love her so much, but I don’t have time for her. She likes soft food and she likes real food but I don’t give it to her cuz she throws up. She love all your time and love I wish I didn’t have to do this, but I have four kids and no time for her.”

Reese’s previous owner hoped to give her a better life by giving her away to another person.

Unfortunately, the woman who owns the property can’t take care of her. However, instead of just sending her away, she took the time to find someone who can actually help.

The woman asked for help from a private Facebook group.

There, another person tagged the Royal Animal Refuge. It’s a local animal rescue shelter that helps abandoned and neglected animals.

When the group first heard about Reese’s story, they were a bit upset.

Unlike humans, animals find it hard to adjust to new surroundings easily. And if they don’t see a familiar face, they become anxious and sad. Eventually, some of them recover. Others aren’t so lucky.

However, since the dog came with a note explaining what happened, they tried to understand the previous owner.

She probably had no one else to turn to. She was left with no choice but to gave up the dog.

Instead of blaming Reese’s previous human, they focused on finding a home for her.

It was a good thing that someone volunteered to help. Robyn Klein, one of the group’s veteran foster parents, agreed to take the dog until she’s able to find her forever family.

It didn’t take long for Reese to find a permanent home.

When Robyn’s mother saw her, she felt an instant connection. She recently lost her dog and that gave her a reason to become a foster parent.

Her initial intent was to foster Reese. Eventually, the family ended up adopting her. She’s such an adorable dog and the family fell in love with her right away.

Reese got lucky.

Compared with younger dogs, senior dogs often have a hard time finding people who will adopt them. With aging comes illnesses and medical conditions and most people are not ready to deal with them physically, mentally, and financially.

Hearing Reese’s story is just heartwarming. It just proves that there are still people who are willing to take risks. They aren’t afraid to make sacrifices just to give animals a better life.
