Senior dog Betty White is looking for her forever home after being returned to shelter
Getting adopted is every shelter dog’s dream.
Every person who passes behind the rails and the fences means new hope for a dog or a cat. If one is lucky, that will be the last time they ever see the shelter.
For dogs and cats who made it, it’s a chance for a loving life. But sometimes, things don’t work out the way we wish them to.
And for some unfortunate animals, what they thought was going to last forever ends back to where they came from.
A senior dog thought she was bound for a quiet retirement.
Her name is Betty White
It’s a well-suited name for an old lady with a goofy personality.
She was named after the late iconic TV personality who dazzled us with honest wit and tummy-cracking humor.
But now, she’s back in the shelter.
The Saratoga County Animal Shelter explained the circumstances surrounding her return to the facility.
They said that Betty was adopted after spending 382 days at the shelter. She found a loving home back then but her dad fell sick.
“With a personality like hers it is hard to believe that she is still looking for her fur-ever home!” the post said, asking for help once again. “Betty must be the only animal in the home, but she is great with older kids, and loves all adults that she meets!”
The local shelter knew that this should not be the last place where she would spend the rest of her life in.
But the waiting list is long and she needed that opportunity as soon as possible. For that, the staff at the Saratoga County Animal Shelter needed to be creative.
The shelter had an idea.
Just recently, a wave of donations surged all over the world to celebrate the birthday of Betty White.
The veteran actress passed away just before 2022 came in, leaving a legacy not just for acting, but also for her one true love – animals.
White has been involved in numerous animal charities all her life, including the American Humane.
To celebrate her life, her fans started the #BettyWhiteChallenge where they’ll donate to shelters under White’s name.
The shelter did a challenge for their own Betty.
In a post they shared on Facebook they challenged people to get Betty adopted. They asked people to share their posts containing Betty’s pictures until she finds a forever home.
“We have a different type of challenge for our friends,” the Saratoga County Animal Shelter said of Facebook. “We challenge you to share our Betty White’s photo today, tomorrow, and every day until she finds a loving home!”
Hopefully, their efforts can help Betty have her dream retirement.
While Betty is still under the care of the shelter, a comment also shared that the organization started receiving donations.
This can help Betty, but most especially, other animals in the shelter.
There might still be a lot of work to get her to a forever home but with the efforts of the staff and dog-lovers, we know that this can be a reality.
