Now-senior dog reunites with owner after being missing for 12 years
Missing a dog is probably one of the most painful things that could happen to a pet owner. Not knowing their furry companion’s whereabouts could make someone sleepless.
Wondering if they’re still alive or not, if they are eating regularly and if they have a decent place to sleep at night. These are just some of the common predicaments of pet owners once their beloved dog goes missing.
Some people had been missing their dogs for months or perhaps a year or two. Unfortunately for this particular dog owner, she had been missing her dog for 12 years!
One day, after a series of unforeseen events, fate finally turned in their favor.
It was over a decade ago when Michelle found the dog, Zoey and her twin sister in an animal pound when they were just 6 months old. Sadly, their relationship as mother and daughter only lasted for 6 months.
One day, Michelle went to a store, she came back after 20 minutes but her beloved Zoey was already gone! She went missing since then and in 2015, the microchip company even listed her as “deceased” in their records.
Until one day, February 10, 2022, a miracle happened!
Animal Services Officer Brandon Levin got a dispatch call about a stray dog who had been dumped on a rural property outside Stockton by someone from a black SUV. The caller also reported that the dog looked “old and unwell”.
They performed a microchip scan on her and luckily, they found one. That’s when they learned her name was Zoey and she was reported missing from Lafayette, California in 2010!
Her owner, Michelle, already moved to Benecia, California. Fortunately, even after over a decade, she’s still using the same phone number found in the microchip’s data. They then contacted Michelle and let her know about the good news.
The much-awaited reunion of Michell and Zoey was set in Rio Vista.
In a short clip uploaded by the Facebook page San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, Michelle was finally reunited with her long-lost furry pal. Although Zoey appeared to be aloof, she didn’t show aggression when her human mom started to pet her.
She said, “She didn’t grow much. She’s so cute!”
“I definitely didn’t expect this to ever happen so I’m really excited, excited to hopefully bring her back,” Michelle concluded.
At Michelle’s home, she has another 13-year-old dog – an instant sibling and playmate for Zoey.
Although Zoey is already considered a senior dog, she still has a chance to fill those 12 empty years by spending the rest of her now more beautiful life with her mom.
Hundreds of people also wished them the same.
“WONDERFUL, HAPPY STORY!! THANKS FOR SHARING & SHOWS THAT YOU NEVER GIVE UP HOPE!! THANK YOU BLUE BOYS & HAPPY DAYS FOR ZOEY & MICHELLE! 💕 🙏 🐾.” Facebook user Paula Clemons wrote.
While apart from happiness, Facebook user Heidi Skocilich realized the importance of microchips in dogs, “This is so great I guess micro chip are very important I am going to put one in mine due to the fact this really touched me I am glad she got her dog back.”
Surely, together with her other dog, Michelle and Zoey are going to create new and beautiful memories together.
