You’re never too old to try something new. And if you think that you are, just consider Melba Mills, who is 100 years young and still seeking out exciting new experiences.

Mills is a lifelong NFL fan in more ways than one. She was born the same year as the NFL, meaning that she has memories of it that go way back.

Football has always been a big part of Mills’s life. Her uncle played football for fun, and she would often see him play when she was a child.

As soon as Mills’s family bought a TV, it was tuned to football games.

Whenever their home team, The Kansas City Chiefs, was playing, the family would gather round and cheer them on.

But she had never been to a professional football game in person.

Even today, Mills still follows The Chiefs very closely. In fact, she’s become quite obsessed with Patrick Mahomes, the team’s current star player. In fact, she was so fixated on Mahomes that she would cut out any newspaper article she could find relating to him.

“I got a whole bunch of stuff on Mahomes. Everybody loves his play. He’s so fast and so slick.” – Melba Mills.

But this season, Mills was to have a once in a lifetime experience.

Thanks to the NFL and the Kansas City Chiefs, Mills would be able to see her team play in the Arrowhead Stadium for the first time ever. And she just might have the opportunity to meet some of the players.

It all started when Mills’s son sent The Chiefs a letter detailing how much his mother loved the team.

He talked about how football had been a lifelong obsession for Mills and that she would do anything to meet some of her favorite players.

On the day of the game, the voice of the team, Mitch Holthus, showed up at Mills’s house to give her the good news. Holthus gave Melba her own special jersey with her name printed upon it.

Up until this moment, the only football games that Mills had been to were her uncle’s. Those had been small scale affairs. This would be huge!

Before the game began, Mills was given a tour of The Chiefs’ stadium. An early highlight of this was when she got to hold Patrick Mahomes’s helmet. She was even allowed to wear it!

But it only got better from there.

She was introduced to Bobby Bell, who was part of the winning Chiefs team that won the Super Bowl in 1970. He told Mills that he wanted to live to 100 too. When they met, he was only 79.

Then, when the game was about to begin, Mills was able to go out onto the field for all of the fans to cheer her on.

There must have been very few people present who had been Chiefs fans for as long as she had been!

And just then came what was undisputedly the best part of Mills’s day. Just before kick-off, Patrick Mahomes walked up to her and shook her hand.

He handed her a game ball from a previous match. Mills had never smiled so much in her life.

Overall, Mills was amazed that the team would do this for her. She’d always loved The Chiefs, but now she knows that The Chiefs love her too.
