So many musicians will never have the opportunity to see their heroes perform live, because they were born too late. And when they meet people who have, they get starstruck.
Everyone does things when they’re young that they can boast about when they’re older.
Maybe they met a president, watched the moonlanding at a moonlanding party or saw a legandary musician perform live.
The woman in this video has one of those claims to fame. When she was in her 20s, she was lucky enough to get to see Elvis Presley perform live.
Elvis Presley should need no introduction, but for those who have literally no knowledge of pop culture from the last 100 years, Elvis Presley was and is regarded as the king of rock and roll. Even to this very day, Elvis is the best selling solo musician of all time.
But the people who got to see him live are incredibly lucky.
He performed over 1,600 concerts in his lifetime. But he never performed outside of North America, took several lengthy hiatuses from touring and died at the age of just 42 in 1977.
But after Laura saw Elvis live in the 1950s, her family meant that she had to put concerts aside.
Despite not being able to see musicians live any longer, Laura still loved listening to music.
Laura’s life away from concerts was contented. She had a good husband and raised a couple of daughters.
But then, after 60 years of marriage, Laura’s husband passed away. Understandably, Laura was devastated.
The widow’s daughters and granddaughters were there for her every step of the way. Together, they ensured that Laura would get through this difficult time.
And one day, one of the daughters came up with an amazing way to lift Laura’s spirits. She heard that one of her mother’s favorite musicians, Garth Brooks, was performing not too far away. And even better, the concert was going to take place on Laura’s 89th birthday.
When Laura found out that her daughters had bought her tickets to see Brooks, she was over the moon. It was going to be the woman’s first concert in decades. And she decided that she wanted Brooks to know this.
So she went about making a sign that said “Elvis was my last concert.”
Laura, her daughter and her granddaughter all went to the concert. When Brooks came out, Laura started waving her sign as hard as she could.
In no time at all, Brooks noticed and put his performance on hold. He walked over to Laura, clearly amazed that she had wanted to see him as her first live musician since the literal king of rock and roll.
Brooks said that at 89 years of age, she looked fantastic. What a great compliment for someone to receive on their birthday!
And then Brooks got into what he really wanted to say. He asked Laura if her Elvis concert was good. It’s obvious from his voice that he would have given anything to see Elvis live.
Then Brooks asked Laura if there was any song at all that she wanted him to play. Laura requested If Tomorrow Never Comes, one of Brooks’s earliest hits.
Watch the performance below. Anyone who sees it can tell that Brooks is really putting his all into the performance. After all, Laura’s closest comparison is literally Elvis Presley!
