Italian senior has heartwarming reunion with cat 4 years after earthquake separates them

We all know about the bonds that people form with their pets. It’s something that you can’t really explain unless you have a pet of your own. So, when an earthquake rocked Italy a few years ago, many people were displaced and lost their homes and many belongings…including their animals.

Meet Dora. The earthquake cost her her home and much more. She lost her cat too. At least that’s what she thought until recently.

Dora’s friend, Mimma Bei, recently posted on Facebook that she was reunited with her sweet cat.

Dora was apparently looking everywhere for her cat since the quake hit. While we don’t know where Dora’s cat was hiding for four years, one thing is certain. He knew how to come back to his owner after all of that time.

We’ve all heard cats have nine lives, so it should come as no surprise that this cat was not only able to survive the earthquake but also find her owner amid the chaos.

Mimma Bei wrote, “Who knows where he had been for so long.” One thing was for sure, Dora had never stopped looking for him.

The two were so cute once they were finally reunited. We’re sure that this cat has plenty of stories to tell. He was probably just as relieved to find his owner after all of that time.

Despite the earthquake and wherever this kitty traveled over the years, he appeared to be in good health and definitely happy to see his owner. He had no visible injuries and was moving around just fine.

We don’t really know what happened with Dora and her cat when the earthquake hit. We don’t know if the cat ran off or if she tried to hold on to him. But, according to Vetted Pet Care, you should resist the urge to hold on tightly to your pet. While it may come as instinct to hold your pet, it may actually scare them more. If they try to run away, let them. Their animal instincts will lead them to a safe place to hide and wait out the storm.

If your pet was in a carrier at the time of the earthquake, leave them in there. It’s one of the safest places they can be. Once the storm or earthquake is over, you can take it out of it’s safe. But, if you think there’s a chance of an aftershock, you should keep them in the carrier until it’s completely safe.

Here’s another interesting fact about cats and earthquakes. Vetted Pet Car also reports that there’s evidence that pets may be able to sense earthquakes before they actually hit. Scientists believe it’s because they hear at much higher frequencies than humans.

Since tiny fissures and deep cracks within the earth usually come before the actual earthquakes, scientists believe pets may be able to hear those before the quake hits.

We don’t know if that’s the case with Dora and her cat. But, one thing is for sure. Her cat definitely had nine lives and knew how to survive in an emergency like an earthquake. That’s great news for Dora who was finally able to be reunited with her cat.
