If you are from the latter, you must know the best places to discover the most inexpensive buys.

These types of customers know that flea markets, bazaars, thrift stores, and garage sales are the places to be if you are searching for affordable items.

In these places, you are sure to find the cheapest items, but not exactly ordinary ones.

There can be extremely rare items in these places and this is another reason why people go to them.

With only a few dollars to spend and the possibility of finding something unique, who would not love to grace these stores and sales, right?

A man named Bruce Scapecchi is someone who loves garage sales.

In fact, he makes sure that he drives around every Saturday to find these sales in hopes of finding something special for an affordable price.

The man is such a garage sale enthusiast that he claims to have gone to five thousand garage sales in one summer alone.

He considers himself an expert and we can totally agree that he is!

Why? Because in one of his garage sale explorations, he spotted one item that is not only special but also a major part of history.

Curious now? This is how it all happened.

Bruce had gone out for his routine garage sale one Saturday when he saw a tiny sale that he decided to stop by.

The man found the sale to be the usual, in fact, it was not as big as the others he used to go to.

But, he did not know that he was about to find an incredible item hiding in the garage sale, waiting for him to find it.

When he got near the items, he saw that there was a bat lying under the ping-pong table.

The wooden bat was placed together with the aluminum ones and looked like any regular bat.

It did look old so Bruce decided to take a look at it.

Bruce asked Sue McEntee, the seller, about the price of the bat.

She answered that Bruce could have it for only a dollar, unaware that it was actually a very special piece of sporting equipment.

Bruce, being an honest person, asked Sue if she knew what the item really was – but the woman had no clue.

To her, the bat was just a simple, old memento.

The man did not know exactly why he was drawn to the bat, but he knew that its grip was quite unusual, which might mean it belonged to a historical player.

And as a matter of fact, it really did belong to a historical baseball player.

Bruce saw that the bat had an engraving that was almost unreadable because of the age of the wood, but it was no mistake that the name on the bat said that it belonged to the one and only Jackie Robinson.

The player received the inaugural Rookie of the Year Award in 1947 and went on to be an All-Star for six seasons.

He was even elected as National League Most Valuable Player in the year 1949.

After finding out what made the bat special, Sue recalled that her uncle, Joe, used to be a player for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.

The bat actually belonged to someone who was also on his team at the time, and that was Robinson.

Sue, of course, decided not to sell the bat that day – and instead kept it for her family.

And it was all thanks to a very honest garage sale enthusiast!
