Serena Williams posts heartfelt eulogy for beloved dog after she passed

The pain of losing a pet is as painful as losing a loved one.

Pet owners, celebrities or not, all experience the same pain when their pet passes away. The grief is even more profound when it’s someone who has been by your side for a very long time.

Tennis superstar Serena Williams may have announced her retirement recently, but retirement had a profound effect on her.

Last August, she announced the passing of Lauerlei.

In a post she shared via Instagram, William said that Lauerlei “sadly took her last breath” on August 27. The superstar said that while her death was painful, she was still thankful she spent a lot of time with her.

She also shared that Lauerlei lived a long life and the last one she spent with Williams is just a generous bonus. In the end, the tennis star said, Lauerlei got everything and the life she wanted.

She posted a carousel of photos together with the announcement.

Her late Maltese dog was 18 years old when she passed away, so you can only imagine the pain that the athlete is going through.

Fellow celebrities expressed their condolences like artists. Singer Kelly Rowland said, “Awwwww, such special, funny moments with this sassy girl! Joshes got her Big Sis by her side!! Cause we miss her too!”

“Bond with pups are so special So sorry for your loss.” Model Naomi Campbell commented.

“Omg my beautiful Lauerlei!” Chef Lauren Von Der Pool said with a bomb of heart emojis, “Can hear you saying chiiiiickun! Sending you and the fam love! I know how much you love her!”

Lauerlei’s death, as Williams put it, was an “end of an era.”

Among her dog’s different favorites, she highlighted chicken and acrobatics. She also has a penchant for biting her toes.

“She was the smallest yet toughest little pup, and I will miss her… so much.” Williams ended and signed the post with Lauerlei’s full name – Lauerlei Linkogle Williams.

Lauerlei is only one of Williams’ three dogs.

Her dog pack includes a Jack Russell terrier named Jackie as a nod to Mariah Carey and her dog. She also has a Yorkshire terrier named Christopher “Chip” Rafael Nadal, after one of the most successful tennis players in the world who’s also Williams’ friend.

Fortunately, Williams still got to play in the US Open. She was accompanied by Chip during one of her practice sessions. Williams lost to Ajla Tomljanovic, ending her bid for the championship.

Serena Williams has since announced her “retirement” from tennis.

However, she reiterated that she will not be retiring but will only be evolving. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, she shared that she’ll focus on motherhood and other businesses outside the sport.

“There’s so many things that I’ve been wanting to do for so many years, and I’ve had such a passion for tennis for so long that I’ve never done them,” she said in the interview. “Now it’s time for me to start to enjoy those things.
