Bella, Abington’s only police dog to be promoted to Sergeant, finally retires
Like their human partners, K9 dogs also go up in ranks. Whenever they do something great or they show excellence at work, they are given proper recognition.
Abington Police Department’s Bella is no ordinary K9 dog.
Ever since she graduated from the New Jersey State Police for Patrol and Explosive Detection School, she has been an important member of the police department.
Her career started in September 2012 when she was partnered with then Officer Jennifer Doyle.
Throughout her years in service, Bella has assisted in hundreds of assignments.
In 2015, for example, she placed 2nd in the overall individual K9 team and even earned 1st place team trophy in the same year. In 2017, she placed first in the overall individual K9 team, obedience, and criminal apprehension. She was able to retain the same spots in 2019.
With so many achievements and recognition, her promotion didn’t come as a surprise.
Bella got promoted to the rank of Sergeant. And to make it more special, she’s the only one to be promoted to such rank.
And now, after serving the community for several years, Bella is finally retiring.
With all the hard work that she did, she deserves to have a break. She’ll be enjoying her much-needed rest at home with her handler, Sergeant Jennifer.
In a message posted by the police department, APD shared:
“K-9 Bella has enjoyed a renowned and admired career with the Abington Township Police Department, instilling a sense of pride and good will for the Department and Abington Township everywhere she went.”
The post has earned hundreds of positive comments.
And it’s not surprising at all. Bella didn’t just successfully completed her missions and assignments but she was also able to be friends with a lot of people, most of them she met at events.
