Avery Hinton had been apart from her mother for 14 long months. And almost 14 million have watched their reunion.

It began like any other school Christmas concert. The kids took to the stage to perform their songs.

All the parents in the audience admired their children’s talent. But for one girl in the choir, there was a very special surprise waiting just around the corner.

When one of the songs ended, the audience applauded.

Then the school principal walked up to the mic to talk about holiday traditions. She mentioned that one of her traditions is having her three children at home for Christmas.

The principal then announced that there would be a reunion that night for a family that had been apart for a whole year.

Then the principal said that there was a servicewoman mother in the room who had been serving in Africa. As she said this, one girl in the choir looked surprised, realizing that they were describing her mother.

Then the principal said, “And so miss Avery Hinton, you have a present under the tree.”

Avery could no longer hold back her tears. Then her mother walked onto the stage. Avery rushed out of the choir and ran over to her mother.

The mother and daughter hugged, so happy to finally see each other again.

Once more, the entire room erupted into applause. The mother started telling Avery how much she had missed her all this time and that she was so happy to be spending Christmas with her.

Luckily, someone was filming this touching moment. The footage soon made its way onto YouTube, where it soon went viral.

To date, it has gained over 13.7 million views. It also has more than 151,000 likes and 8,900 comments. People have been saying things like this:

Of course, that was a bittersweet moment. It really makes you appreciate the sacrifices that people have to make for the safety of others.

Currently, there are approximately 200,000 US servicemen and women deployed overseas. Like the mother in this video, they all have families back in the USA that they love and care for deeply and wish that they could be with right now.

Footage like this really puts the current coronavirus crisis into perspective. Yes, everyone across the country has to make a sacrifice right now. But that sacrifice is staying in your comfortable home. That’s far less of a sacrifice than the ones that any of the currently deployed troops have to make.

Many of them, like the mother in this video, have to go for more than a year without seeing their loved ones. If servicemen and women can be apart from their family for over a year, then you can stay indoors for a few months.

Hopefully, the coronavirus will die down in due course and more soldiers will be able to return home in the future. Until then, we just have to stay positive.
