Couple transforms a simple garden shed into a warm and cozy guesthouse

It is easy to feel discouraged when looking at small and unused spaces, but the cool thing is that usually, there is a lot of different stuff you can do with them. It may not seem like it at first, but if you give yourself some creative freedom and let your imagination run free, the realm of possibilities is pretty much endless.
So hopefully, if you are struggling with some unused space and are not sure what to do with it, we hope that this story will serve as some inspiration!
This couple, Jason and Tricia, had an unused garden shed near their home, so they decided to stand up to the challenge and make something more of it for their stepdaughter, Juli.
They wanted her to have a place to stay whenever she came to visit. Additionally, it would serve as a guest house for any other friends and family members.

The cottage was under 110 square feet and in desperate need of a re-design. What makes this even more impressive is the fact that this entire project only took about six weeks to complete!
Their stepdaughter’s one and only request was that the space was blue. Other than that, the rest was entirely up to them.

The garden shed initially started out with a lot of things that needed to be fixed soon: rotting ceiling, plywood floors, and drafty windows.
Luckily, Jason had a construction business for several years, so he knew a thing or two about giving spaces a makeover. His knowledge and experience gave him the upper hand and really came into play during this time.
The most time-consuming part, according to the couple, was installing new windows.
Additionally, reconfiguring the wiring and putting up the faux shiplap also wasn’t a complete breeze. However, they made it through and the rest wasn’t so bad.

There isn’t a ton of space in the place, so every design in the new place has a reason for being there, whether it’s form or function. It’s important to utilize the space as best you can so that not a single inch goes to waste (especially when you are designing a small home).
Storage, storage, storage!

There is storage space built-in pretty much wherever you look. Also, the bed has a pop-up trundle which allows it to expand into a king-sized bed. They also built cabinets flanking the bed for extra storage.

They painted almost everything in white, which makes the room feel more spacious. The space has a good mix of a modern and vintage feel, and of course, it has splashes of a gorgeous blue — just as Juli requested.
It is pretty insane to think that this entire space was rebuilt in just over a month. And it just goes to show how much you can do, even if you’re limited on space and on a tight budget!
This couple not only worked hard, but they worked smart.
Hopefully, this inspires others to get creative with their space as well! Watch the full video tour below.
