Vet starts delivering tiny shelter dog’s babies and the pups just keep coming out
Mothers would agree that itâs not easy to carry one child.
Thatâs why most of us would be amazed if we heard of a woman giving multiple births, not only for the physical toll it can have on their body but also for her emotional and mental health.
Mothers are heroes in that very sense alone.
It could be the same for animals, although most give birth to multiple babies.
However, their bodies can only carry so much, and going beyond what is commonly known can also be critical for their pregnancy.
Sounds like humans, right?
Take Jack Russell Terriers, for example.
JRTs usually have 5-7 puppies in one litter, depending on their size, age, and overall health.
It would usually take 15-25 minutes interval between those puppies, and anything more than that litter size and time interval is a miracle!
In that case, we can consider Momma Maloneâs pregnancy as one.
Momma Malone was a new shelter dog in the Kentucky Humane Society and was already very pregnant by then.
KHS veterinarian Dr. Emily Bewley decided to foster her for the duration of that pregnancy.
They did an ultrasound so they would know how many puppies she was expecting.
You wouldnât believe how many puppies were in her belly!
Dr. Bewley posted a video on her TikTok account showing a photo of the ultrasound and asked her followers to guess how many puppies were in there.
Like most of us, you cannot imagine how many were there. Can you take a wild guess?
Momma Malone was expecting nine babies. Nine!
Four days after, she was already in labor. Dr. Bewley had to drive her to the shelter so the other veterinarians and the rest of the team could help with this pregnancy because they knew it would be challenging.
Her son was with Momma Malone throughout the car trip, comforting her in pain.
They performed an emergency C-section, and it only took 20 minutes.
All hands were on deck, and everything was worth it because Momma Malone delivered all nine healthy puppies.
They gave her time to recover from the surgery before they introduced her to her babies.
Dr. Bewley admitted they were a bit worried about how she would connect with her babies.
They initially thought she would be distant or not know how to deal with them.
Plus, the fact that they were nine of them might be too overwhelming for this first-time mom.
Momma Malone once again surprised them with how she took on her new role.
âWhen she woke up, she took to [motherhood] like she had done it before, even though Iâm pretty sure this is her first time. Sheâs taking good care of everybody,â Dr. Bewley told The Dodo.
And you could tell with that smile that motherhood suits her well.
She looks happy and proud to be a mother to these nine adorable puppies.
The puppies would be under the care of the Kentucky Home Society in the meantime.
Once theyâre old enough and ready, the shelter would soon post and search for their forever homes.
