Speck had had a rough life before arriving at the shelter. When he arrived, he found stability but longed for a forever home more than anything else.

Many dogs start their lives as strays. Speck was no different. Luckily, he found his way to Bullock County Humane Society, where he had shelter and food.

But what he really wanted was the companionship of a human.

He soon grew attached to the shelter volunteers. And the volunteers all fell in love with him too. In fact, if they ever passed his cage, he would reach his paws out through the bars, desperate for some contact.

Sadly, all of the volunteers’ homes were filled to the brim with animals. They had no way to take Speck in. So they hoped that a family would soon become attached to the dog.

Unfortunately, no family took an interest in Speck as the months went by. He tried to get the people’s attention, but they just saw the scars on his face and decided against him.

After a year and a half in the shelter, Speck had become incredibly lonely. He appreciated the volunteers, but he was desperate for a family of his own. The dog was still constantly swiping his paw out of his kennel, hoping that people would take a shine to him. Yet he was still getting rejected.

Then one day, something happened to turn Speck’s fortunes all around.

The shelter director, Desiray Miracle-Wilder, posted a video of Speck reaching out for her. In the video, the dog first used one paw and then the second to keep Miracle-Wilder nearby. The dog loved it when Miracle-Wilder pet and scratched him.

The dog’s loving nature soon went viral.

In just three weeks, the video has gained over 258,000 views. Pretty soon, many people were contacting the shelter, desperate to take on the dog that had waited for so long.

In just a couple of days, the shelter had located the ideal home for Speck.

He would soon be on his way to a farm to meet his new parents, Mike and Danielle. The adopters already had two dogs.

But when they saw the video, they realized that they needed Speck!

Miracle-Wilder then announced that Speck’s video had also resulted in several other dogs in the shelter finding forever homes (as well as boosting donations.) If Speck knew that he’d done this, he’d be very pleased with himself!

In April 2020, Speck finally landed at his forever home. He soon fell in love with Mike, Danielle and the dogs. He is sure to have a very happy life ahead of him, which is definitely what he deserves after what he’s been through!

They ensure that every dog is as happy as they can be while they wait for a forever home. They definitely deserve lots of donations!
