Shelter dog tries to show what a good boy he is by making his own bed each day

Rush had been a shelter dog for a long time.

He was a revolving resident.

Initially, he was adopted by a family, but he was returned to the SICSA a while later, because, his temporary owners said, he wasn’t a good fit for their family.

“They weren’t just casting Rush away,” Nora Vondrell, executive director of SICSA Pet Adoption Center in Kettering, Ohio, told ABC News. “They really did try some things, but it wasn’t a good fit for their family. He is a high-energy dog that really wants to be with you, but he likes to play and run.”

And then, Rush returned to his state as a shelter dog, available for adoption.

Not the easiest feat

It wasn’t easy for someone to be convinced to adopt him.

Not because he was not well-behaved, but because of the Pit Bull label he carried.

You see, people are still scared of such breeds, mostly because of misinformation they have been receiving about them over the years.

“There are a lot of negative stereotypes about the American pit bull. If we were able to highlight the cute cuddly points of Rush, then we can help people look beyond the pit bull label,” Vondrell said.

As dog experts explain, Pitbulls are super friendly with kids and strangers, and they are affectionate family pets.

Who would have thought?

That being said, it seems that such breeds tend to scare people because they have been victims of “abuse, neglect, chaining, tethering, and inadequate obedience training and supervision”.

But Rush is not one of them.

He is a very well-behaved dog, who can even make his own bed.

In fact, after he was returned to the shelter, the people who took care of him there had him sleep in his very own cozy bed.

And they soon realized he would make it every morning.

He just grabbed the blanket with his teeth and moved around as if he wanted to have his bed perfectly covered.

The shelter staff uploaded a video of Rush making his bed on YouTube, and it quickly went viral.

They hoped that this would help him get adopted more easily.

Indeed, only days later, a couple saw Rush’s story on the news and thought he might be a good addition to their family.

They had recently lost their dog, but they felt ready for adopting again, and the pitbull that makes his bed seemed perfect for them.

They decided to drive all the way to the shelter to see if he still was available.

They got a sign

On their way there, they saw a signal that told them that adopting this dog was the right thing to do.

On the road, they saw a banner reading “Rush to be there”, but “to be there” was in a smaller font, so Rush was the first thing they saw.

This was just what they needed to be 100% sure that this dog was just waiting for them to be his forever family.

They were right.

The couple soon adopted him and they couldn’t be happier with their decision.
