Sweetest shelter dog shows he’s a good boy by making his bed every single day

Life can be tough for a shelter dog. It can be a lonely wait for their forever homes and humans. The pit bull in this story went out of his way to try and prove to potential adopters that he is, in fact, a very good boy.

This turned out to be a winning strategy for him as well. Not only that, it turned him into something of an internet celebrity.

Just a sweet guy looking for a forever home.

Rush was staying at the SICSA Pet Adoption and Wellness Center in Dayton, Ohio. He was waiting for his new family to find him there and adopt him. Unfortunately, because of common misconceptions about his particular breed, dogs like Rush sometimes have to wait longer than others to find their new homes.

Rush made quite the impression on the shelter workers. They noted him as being particularly affectionate and sweet. All he needed was a chance to show the world what a loving companion he could be. Rush had love to offer, if only someone would take him up on it.

“There are a lot of negative stereotypes about the American pit bull. If we were able to highlight the cute cuddly points of Rush, then we can help people look beyond the pit bull label,” Nora Vondrell, executive director of SICSA, Ohio, told ABC News.

You have to stand out if you want to get adopted.

Perhaps Rush was thinking that he needed to stand out in order to get adopted. Maybe that was the reason he started doing something rather extraordinary. Shelter workers noticed that Rush was making his own bed in his kennel. He’d grab the blanket in his mouth and move it perfectly into place.

This wasn’t something Rush would do every once in awhile, he did it every single day! A staff member felt this was so unique that they decided to film the pit bull doing it.

Rush proves to the world that he is a very good boy.

The shelter workers posted video of Rush making his bed to the shelter’s YouTube page and it promptly went viral. People couldn’t believe this tidy little pit bull was actually make his own bed.

“[Rush] makes his bed every day at an animal shelter while he waits for a family to adopt him,” SICSA wrote on Facebook. “He’s been waiting for over 30 days.”

Rush became an internet celebrity.

The shelter even began marketing t-shirts with pictures of Rush making his bed with all the proceeds being donated to the Society For The Improvement Of Conditions For Stray Animals.

Rush gets adopted!

It wasn’t long after Rush’s video went viral that he was adopted. Who wouldn’t want to adopt a dog that can make its own bed? What else can they do? Can they vacuum? Make dinner?

Rush’s new owners had lost a dog earlier that year and weren’t sure if they were ready for a new one. They would later say that as soon as they saw Rush, they were sure that they wanted to give him his new forever home.

“We are so excited to announce that Rush has a new family! The adoptive family has an amazing story of how they heard about Rush and how he was their destiny,” SICSA shared on the video’s description.
