Shelter dog refused to look at anyone takes an amazing turn for the better
A shelter dog named Clementine was found wandering around the street by the animal control of South Carolina and right at first glance, they immediately knew that the poor stray was in a bad shape.
She only weighed 45 pounds and half of her fur was gone.
Not only that but she also had five concurrent infections and because of her health issues, she was even set to be neutered at the shelter. Thankfully, the heavens sent her guardian angel, a person who was destined to change her fate – Chelsea Elizabeth Cossairt.
Before they were able to put poor Clementinedown, Chelsea saw the poor dog’s photo online, and she was immediately fallen for her right there and then. She wasted no time and quickly sent the shelter her adoption application.
“The person at Ginger’s Pet Rescue was floored and in tears that we were interested in her,” she told The Dodo. “She told us that of the hundreds of applications they’d received for dogs in the previous few weeks, not one had been for Clementine.”
Chelsea didn’t mind Clementine’s condition.
The workers at the shelter even told her that the dog’s future wasn’t certain due to her poor health condition. Chelsea absolutely knew what she was getting into and still proceed with the adoption process.
Everything went smoothly, however, when she brought the dog home, it had a difficult time adapting to her new environment.
“Clementine was absolutely terrified of people and wouldn’t look anyone in the eyes,” Chelsea said. “She shook all the time, hid behind furniture, and sat facing the wall for months.”
The dog’s new human mom said that she had “defeated, empty eyes.” Clementine always had her face bowed whenever they were near her. Despite being at home and around her new family, she always seemed afraid of almost everything.
A ray of hope.
Although Clementine was afraid of humans, there were two family members that she quickly trusted, they were non-other than her two new dog siblings – Moose and Maple. That’s also the time when Chelsea saw a ray of hope, hope that one day – Clementine would also learn to trust and love them.
To make it happen, of course, she didn’t stop showering her with tons of love.
After countless vet visits and months of treatments, Clementine was finally given the green bill of health. She was no longer shaking and she also started to break the wall between her and the people around her.
Slowly but surely, after a couple of more cuddles and snuggles, finally – she started embracing the people who had been longing for her love.
“She loves to look deeply into our eyes while we pet her, and she’s very attentive when we’re talking to her,” Elizabeth said. “She’s still wary of new people and sometimes even gets spooked by us if we move too quickly or come up behind her, but she’s come so far.
Clementine was back to being a dog.
She was finally out of her wall and transformed into the sweetest dog ever.
“She’s so sweet and such a gentle girl,” Elizabeth said. “We could tell very early on that she just wants to love and be loved in return. She’s loyal and protective of us, and she follows us around everywhere.”
Chelsea and her family couldn’t be happier with finally being able to be a part of Clementine’s life. From a scared and sickly dog to a beautiful and playful dog – what a transformation!
