Shelter dog won’t stop smiling after being rescued
Dogs often feel a roller-coaster of emotions when they are at animal shelters. Most of them are abused, neglected, and abandoned pets. So expect them to be aloof, distant, and scared at times.
But this little pup has a different perspective.
Layla was found wandering alone in a busy street last summer. She was picked up by her rescuers who then took her to the Beaumont Animal Care in Texas.
The 7-week-old pup was frail and shy at first, but then she realized that everyone at the shelter was nice to her.
The people at the shelter wanted nothing but to keep Layla safe. They all took good care of her and pretty soon, the rescued pup became relaxed and happy.
To show her gratitude to her rescuers, she flashed them a heart-melting smile!
“When I began to speak in a baby talk kind of voice she absolutely loved it,” tech Rachel Barron told The Dodo. “[She] began wagging her tail and then boom, the famous smile. That is when I pulled out my phone to get it on video. It was too cute not to share.”
They first made sure that Layla was already far from any kind of danger, then soon after, she was all ready to be adopted.
A lot of people showed their desire in taking the smiling pup into their homes- all thanks to the video posted by Barron.
Nicole Toney and her husband were just two amongst the potential adopters of Layla.
As soon as the couple saw that Layla was already up for adoption, they immediately expressed their interest in becoming the little dog’s new parents.
The feeling of having rescue animals at home was no stranger to the couple. It’s because they already owned three rescue dogs and two cats.
“I was like ‘OMG this dog is so precious! I’m coming home with this dog tomorrow,” Nicole told The Dodo. “I walked in and I was like ‘Can I see the smiling dog?’”
At first, the baby dog was shy to interact with Nicole, but then she eventually gave in after a few more meetings.
She slowly embraced the cuddles offered by her soon-to-be new mom. Pretty soon, the staff from the shelter saw that the puppy already felt comfort in Nicole’s arms.
That’s when they realized it was time to let Layla go home with her new family.
To help Layla and their other pets at home, Nicole and her husband let them do whatever they needed to do to get themselves comfortable being around each other.
Lady, one of their dogs, had just given birth when she was rescued.
For some good reason, they were immediately drawn to one another.
While Sadie, still one of their dogs, wasn’t that happy to have a new face at home. In fact, they ignored each other at first, but just a few days after, they started to bond together. Then they started doing everything together and became the best of friends.
Soon enough, they became a happy family!
Right now, Layla is no longer that little pup. She’s already a grown-up dog but her trademark smile that melted our hearts is still there.
She still continues to warm the hearts of the people around her by flashing her beautiful smile.
We are all glad that she didn’t end up in the streets. There’s nothing that we could ask for aside from the continued growth of their happy family!
