Homeless teen reunites with dog after surrendering him in desperation

One of the most deplorable things one can do is abandon their pet.

We’ve seen and read stories about people leaving their dogs or cats on the side of the road. Their expectant pets don’t even have an idea of what was happening until it was too late.

But what if it was done out of compassion? What if it’s because the owner was honest enough to admit that they need help?

Kris Robinson will never forget the moment a teen walked into their shelter.

Robinson, the Interim Shelter Director at the Senatobia-Tate County Animal Shelter, said that one afternoon, a 17-year-old boy walked in with an adorable Rottweiler-German Shepherd pup named Jada.

The boy then asked her for an important request. A request that Robinson quickly accommodated, especially when the boy made his intentions clear.

The boy, who was not identified, just made a painful decision.

He decided to surrender Jada because he couldn’t bear the responsibility anymore. Robinson said to the teen boy that the shelter was already full.

That’s when the young man admitted that he was living under a bridge. He had a tent and when he went out to look for work, Jada escaped.

The story broke Robinson’s heart.

Maybe focusing on his own survival, the boy realized that Jada deserves something so much better. Robinson said that the teen surrendered Jada and left her with a bag of dog food.

“We’re a shelter, so we’re concerned about the dog, but ultimately we were concerned about him and him getting off the street and getting some help,” Robinson said to WREG.

Robinson also shared that after the teen filled out the surrender form, they passed on the information he provided to people that could help him.

When the shelter posted the story, people can’t help but sympathize.

One commenter wrote that even if they were living in a different state, they were willing to give a donation just so the boy and the dog could be reunited and have a place to stay together.

Robinson, meanwhile, admired the teen. She said that even if the teen was struggling and was desperately trying to figure out how he could make ends meet, he still made sure that his dog will receive the best care.

In the meantime, Robinson placed all adoption requests for Jada on hold as she was still hoping that the teen could resolve his issues so he can come back for Jada.

But it seems that she doesn’t have to wait too long.

The local authorities were able to track down the boy with the help of several members of the community.

Jada was so excited to be reunited with her human after spending several days in the shelter. Robinson said that the boy and his dog will be staying over with someone he knows.

Everyone hopes that the boy could finally get his break so that he wouldn’t have to make the painful decision of leaving his dog behind ever again.
