Baby Girl, a beautiful Pittbull and German Shepherd mix, was only four years old when she was taken to the Capital Humane Society to be taken care of.

The dog was treated by the people working there, and in a few months, she was ready to be adopted.

However, things didn’t go as planned.

It seemed that nobody wanted to adopt the big dog, although, as people from the Humane Society said, she was such a sweetheart.

Was it her size?

When it comes to adopting a pet, research has shown that the ones that get adopted first are the smallest dogs.

Medium-sized and large dogs spend more time in shelters, while extra-large dogs also get more easily adopted because they are considered special.

Could it have been her age?

Age is also a critical factor when it comes to adopting a dog.

Puppies are the ones that most people want, and older ones often stay longer in shelters or even get euthanized.

Finally, the dog’s behavior is also important.

Friendly dogs and those who get along well with children and other pets are the ones that most people prefer.

It seems that Baby Girl had some characteristics that didn’t make her as “adoptable” as other dogs.

First, she was not a puppy.

She was already four when she arrived at the shelter.

Also, she is quite large.

Definitely not the lapdog that many prefer, but not a cute St Bernard that many find unique to have.

On top of everything, she didn’t like to be around strangers and other pets.

This made it difficult for people who already had other pets at home to add her to their families.

“[The shelter staff] deny adoption because people don’t realize she is extremely aggressive towards anyone she doesn’t know and other animals,” someone wrote on Facebook at the time.

Someone else shared her experience.

The woman actually wished to adopt her, but then she found out the dog couldn’t share the same house with other pets.

“She can’t be with any other pets she has to be in a home by herself. I was going to adopt her but when they said she don’t get along with any pet I couldn’t adopt her I have a lab and I adopt a cat,” the woman explained.

But, finally, after five years of patiently waiting in the shelter, the dog found her forever home.

She found the right person.

A woman who shared her home with her mother went to see her and it was really love at first sight.

Both the aspiring adopter and the dog felt immediately that they were going to click.

So, without even having to think twice, the woman decided to adopt the dog.

The dog’s new owner shared her positive experience of having Baby Girl in her life.

“Baby Girl has brought so much joy to my life. She loves her daily walks and going outside. She loves her yard and would rather be outside sunning herself than being inside any day! She can’t get enough belly rubs and she has to be touching me at all times,” she shared on Facebook.

Finally, after years of waiting, Baby Girl found a loving family to share the rest of her life with.
