Wine shop gets creative and has dog deliver wine to customers in quarantine
In these times, living in the midst of the pandemic, we find great comfort in the essentials of life. While we are spending most of our time indoors, things like drinking and playing with our pets have become our highest priorities.
So, if you got a chance to get some wine from a dog, it’s like combining two of our favorite things, right?
The Stone House Urban Winery in Hagerstown, Maryland have done just that. Making a dream come true for some.
This wasn’t necessarily a tactic to sell more wine, however. It was done as a safety concern, first and foremost.
Now that we are dealing with social distancing, businesses are trying to figure out ways to keep the doors open and still meet their customer’s needs safely. Lori Yata, co-owner of the wine shop came up with this brilliant idea.
She thought she’d use the new delivery method to bring more awareness to the practice of social distancing. And having your wine delivered by a cute 4-legged friend,of course.
The winery’s new employee is named Soda Pup.
He’s an 11-year-old Boxer weighing in at 75 lbs. Lori has fitted him with special saddlebags that allow him to carry two full bottles of wine at a time.
“Mom says that we all have to pitch in and pull our weight, that includes me as well. So, if you are out shopping and have kids in the car, or just want to keep your distance from other folks, give us a call and place your order,” the Stone House Urban Winery said on Facebook.
Lori makes sure to give customers the choice of how they want to have their wine delivered to their car. Two-legs or four-legs? She says “10 out of 10 times they choose Soda Pup.”
Soda Pup is still very much a dog at heart and Lori has to check outside before she lets him make a wine delivery.
“I have to check and make sure there are no geese, or squirrels, or bunnies. Thank goodness the robins fly away cause he does like to chase the robins”
Don’t worry about the old boy being over-worked. He gets plenty of rest.
“I never carry more than two bottles of wine. I never make more than one trip per customer. Sometimes I don’t have wine in my sack at all, I just go out to meet people when they come to buy their wine,” they continued on Facebook. “When I’m tired I lay on my BIG comfy bed and nap. My mom knows what is best for me and would never do anything that would cause me harm!”
The process works by the customer placing their order.
Lori gathers the wine and then puts the harness on Soda Pup. She puts the wine into the pouches and sends the pup out the door to the waiting customer. The customer even has the option of tipping Soda Pup with a dog treat that comes along with the order.
Just ask for a paw. You get a handshake and Soda Pup gets a treat. So cute!
Lori only brought on Soda Pup to help temporarily, but is now considering having him on as a full-time employee. The idea seems to be bringing in more people to buy wine.
We love the inventive ideas people are coming up with to make businesses still work. Let’s just hope the Covid-19 virus goes away and the doggy wine deliveries stay.
