Pantry & Refridgerator Sweep

First things first have you made sure there is absolutely no edible food in your home. If you can avoid the grocery store at all costs that is the most beneficial way to avoid spreading or contracting the virus. It’s also a fun time to use all of the food you have and make something new from the secret stash. But if it’s dire for you to go to the store no problem!

Got Symptoms? Stay Away

If you happen to have any inkling that you might be carrying the virus or starting to get a little sick… Stay home. It’s better to find a friend or family member to pick up groceries for you then put yourself and others at risk. There are also delivery grocery services available if you need them as well.

Prepare Yourself

If you’re healthy and ready to shop make sure you have a thorough list of what you need. It’s recommended to buy 2 weeks worth of groceries. A list makes the grocery run much more efficient so you can be in and out as quickly as possible. Bring protective equipment such as a mask and disinfectant wipes with you. Most grocery stores provide easy pull wipes for you to wipe down carts and baskets. But just to be sure it helps if you bring your own along with you.

Shop, Drop, & Roll

You’re now ready with the list in hand and a disinfected cart. It’s also helpful to go during calm hours at the grocery store usually early morning 7 am-9 am or later hours like 7 pm- 9 pm. Make it speedy and follow your list, try not to get caught up in all of the other things you could buy. SHOP, DROP (the money), and ROLL (on out of there).

Wipe Down

As soon as you’ve washed your hands it’s time to disinfect those groceries. If you have protective gloves put them on and start using disinfecting wipes on all non-perishable groceries. Science Daily has announced that the virus can stay on surfaces like cardboard for 2-3 hours up to days. So it’s important to disinfect groceries the moment they’re in your home. You can also discard all bags and cardboard to put the food in a reusable container for extra precautions.

Keep Chemicals Away From Produce

There’s no need to soak produce in soap and/or wiping them with bleach wipes. There’s more of a chance that you’ll become sick from ingesting chemicals than actually contracting the virus. All you need to do is soak raw produce in water and you can even put a smidge of vinegar in there to have them extra clean.

Wipe Down Finale

After you’ve disinfected and put away all items. Disinfect your countertops to make sure the virus doesn’t stick around after going through your groceries. Also if you using reusable bags throw them right into the washer and TADA! You’ve shopped safely and stress-free.
