Sweet German shepherd with short spine syndrome just wants cuddles and love

Most dogs seek companionship and love, whether it is from humans or other dogs. One dog, named Quasimodo, has captured the heart of the Internet. Unlike many dogs, Quasi, as he’s known, has Short Spine Syndrome. Regardless of his condition, the lovable German shepherd seems bound and determined to be happy.

Discovered wandering the streets of Kentucky, Quasi has come a long way since his days as a stray. He was taken to the non-profit animal shelter Secondhand Hounds in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Since his arrival, Quasi has captured the hearts of people on Facebook where he has over 350,000 followers on his Facebook page, Quasi The Great.

What is Short Spine Syndrome?

Quasi has a rare condition known as Short Spine Syndrome. The condition is so rare that there are only about a dozen or so dogs around the world known to have it. Dogs with the condition have a compressed spine which makes their bodies shorter than normal. This gives the dogs with the condition the appearance of not having a neck.

Fortunately, dogs with Short Spine Syndrome can live normal lives with a regular lifespan. Some complications can arise, including missing ribs, instability in their spine, and herniated discs, among other medical conditions, many of which Quasi has.

For his part, Quasi seems to have taken his condition in stride. At his foster home in Michigan, he has many brothers and sisters who look up to him and that he gives all of his love and attention to. His foster mom says he enjoys life, is goofy and playful, and especially likes girl dogs.

He also has a soft spot for puppies and smaller dogs. He enjoys snuggling and playing with them, as well as giving them plenty of doggie kisses. Also, he likes to snuggle with the humans in his foster home. His foster mom, Sara Anderson, had this to say about the happy-go-lucky dog:

“He gets around just fine and knows exactly how to snuggle to fit into a lap.”

Quasi also helps raise funds for Quasi’s Tiny Warriors, which benefits the Secondhand Hounds Neonatal Program. As a part of the organization, he takes part in the yearly calendar, along with some of the other pups. He also takes part in a variety of other fundraisers, including the annual Donuts for Dogs 5k.

“He may not be as pretty as many dogs on the outside, but his heart and soul shine through and make him one of God’s most beautiful creatures,” Anderson said.
