Family ties aren’t easily broken, and that’s definitely something that doesn’t only apply to humans. Some say that there’s nothing more powerful than motherly love, but the bond between siblings is one of the strongest bonds in existence, especially for canines. It makes sense, after all, since you spend most of your life together with siblings.

Having a pet sibling around is actually really beneficial, and the bond is incredibly strong.

“The unique bond of pet siblings is as important as humans having a life-long companion. In addition, to develop skills that allow for learning and growth, such as communication and socialization, the bond is immeasurable,” animal site Trupanion states.

However, it definitely not uncommon for dog siblings to be separated from each other, it’s just something that happens all the time. It’s a heartbreaking thought, but the dogs usually end up separately in loving homes.

One day, two dog siblings who got separated after birth suddenly encountered each other on the street.

The adorable Monty and Rosie instantly recognized each other, and their owners didn’t have the slightest clue what was going on!

Both of them were simply going for a walk with their owners at the same time, and realization struck when they crossed each other. They absolutely went wild and couldn’t contain themselves.

Right away, they start jumping towards each other to go in for a big hug and a couple of licks.

These two adorable pups were born a little under a year earlier and were part of a litter of six. When they were still newborns, Monty and Rosie already had quite a special bond.

Susan Kilip, mom of Rosie, recalls how things were back then.

“There were six of them,” Susan said to The Dodo. “But Monty and Rosie were always together.”

“It was so lovely, they both just jumped up and hugged each other,” she said of their accidental reunion all those months later. “It was amazing they remembered each other after 10 months of not seeing each other.”

Monty’s owner Dave was definitely touched by their special encounter too.

“So, Dave was out walking his dog, and there was a couple walking towards him with a white version of his dog. Turns out they are brother and sister from the same litter. But instead of just playing like they do with other dogs, look at this,” one of the owner’s friends told his daughter Libby.

Scientists still aren’t really sure if dogs can actually remember their siblings from when they were still in a litter. For example, dogs of the same breed can react pretty wildly to and with each other, and it is also possible that they recognize smells because dogs are able to hold on to that for a very long time.

“Dogs of the same breed often gravitate toward each other,” the website of Tufts University writes. “What we know is this: The scent of another dog stays with a dog for a long time … But whether the dog is processing that it’s a familial connection, we’ll probably never know for sure.”

Monty and Rosie will be making regular playdates now that they’ve rediscovered each other.

After the restrictions for the coronavirus pandemic loosen, these two four-footers will be able to see each other on a regular basis.

“We will keep in touch,” Sarah assured. “[It’s] a bit difficult at the moment, but after this is all over, we’ll be having doggy walkies together.”
