Siblings spellbind audience with mesmerizing Scottish ice dance

Competitive ice dancing is an impressive discipline. Our jaws drop when we see a couple doing their best tricks on the ice. With that being said, take a look at the Kerr siblings’ 2008 performance at the World Figure Skating Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Millions of fans have enjoyed the incredible showmanship of the talented duo, and almost 2 million people have seen the YouTube video of their performance.

Let’s take a look, shall we?

The Kerr siblings are the first skaters from Scotland to win a British title.

They’re also the first skaters from Great Britain to win a medal at the European Championships since 1994.

Outstanding accomplishments, aren’t they? Sinead Kerr and John Kerr, the brother/sister ice dance team, joined forces in 2000. Since then, the couple has accomplished a lot, and the world immediately recognized them for their unique style and cool moves.

These two are not only phenomenal skaters; they have other talents, too. John loves football, and he appeared in Robert Duvall’s film A Shot at Glory. On the other hand, Sinead was a model for Alexander McQueen, who added a skating surface to one of his shows at London Fashion Week.

With the ISU’s (International Skating Union) permission, John performed in a kilt in 2008.

After many successful competitions, the Kerr duo proudly represented their native country’s culture and John wore a kilt. We can see it in the video, John and Sinead paired their outfits.

Their synchronized moves are hard to describe. We’ve come to think that they have a secret way of defying gravity.

One YouTube user commented that the show was “a pure joy to watch.”

We completely agree. Both John and Sinead displayed terrific movements with such grace. The best part about the performance is their confidence though.

It is evident that they are having a lot of fun while dancing on ice.

They retired from competitive skating in April 2011.

But the world will always remember them as one of the best couples that have ever graced the ice stage.

The Kerrs have taken part in numerous shows worldwide.

Since their retirement, the duo has been active and are considered among the most popular ice dance teams currently performing. Both also work as ice dance coaches. Needless to say, they have impressive careers.

Back to the video, take a look at the beginning of their choreography. They’ve incorporated numerous patriotic elements into their routine. From the song choice to traditional dance moves – everything has the Scottish signature.

Check out the moment when Sinead hangs upside down, holding John’s leg in her hand.

Yes, that’s probably the most impressive part of the video. We are quite sure that most people couldn’t perform it off the ice, but they are skillful beyond words.

The fun doesn’t stop there, though. In a little less than four minutes, John and Sinead managed to use the entire ice surface.

The amount of spinning we’ve seen is admirable. We can’t imagine the amount of practice they must have had to accomplish such precise moves.

From fast to slow, then back to fast, the tempo changes a lot, and it’s the kind of performance that will keep your eyes glued to the screen.

Their timing is awe-inspiring. Interestingly, they both started as single skaters, but after seeing the video, we are convinced that their decision to team up was the right one.
