13-year-old with rare disorder uses his 'Make-A-Wish' to give food to the homeless

When you ask kids what their wishes are, you’d probably hear toys, chocolates or gaming devices. Some of them may even ask to go to Disneyland or a theme park!

A 13-year-old kid’s wish is a bit different.

Adeola Abraham Olagbegi has been diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. It’s a condition in which the body halts the production of new blood cells, causing bone marrow damage. The condition puts him at risk of uncontrolled bleeding and infection.

Because of his diagnosis, Abraham had to miss a lot of the things he loved doing.

He wasn’t able to see his friends or go to school. He also wasn’t able to play his favorite sports.

One thing he missed the most was his mission of helping homeless people.

Before the family received his diagnosis, they were feeding homeless people at their park. Unfortunately, because he had to undergo treatments and tests, the family had to stop the activity.

After his bone marrow surgery, doctors were able to refer Abraham to the Mississippi chapter of Make-A-Wish.

However, instead of wishing for something for himself, he told them that he’d like to feed the homeless. Even his mom was curious about his decision. He could easily get a PlayStation, right?

Abraham was determined to continue his mission.

And the Make-A-Wish group listened. In fact, they committed to feeding around 80 people each month for an entire calendar year. They called the event “Abraham’s Table” and it’ll be held at Poindexter Park every Saturday.

Abraham’s wish was the group’s first philanthropic wish in its more than 20 years of existence in the state.

In an interview with WLBT, Linda Sermons of Make-A-Wish Mississippi shared:

“We were excited this is our first philanthropic wish in our 20+ years of the chapter in the state — a huge milestone for us, but also this is the first meal that Abraham is able to serve.”

Abraham is an inspiration to a lot of people.

In the same interview, he said:

“I am a person of hope, so when you come against a big mountain, you have to remember you have a big God.”

Even people from the internet were in awe of his kindness.
