Simon embarrassed when judge hops on table to dance to contestant’s song
It’s not too hard to embarrass Simon Cowell, the man who is quite infamous for being harshly judgmental. However, somehow he seemed more embarrassed than ever before thanks to his dear friend and fellow Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams.
BGT contestant Sue Moretta knew that she was a great singer and a great performer overall. She is classically-trained and was just about to give up on her dream after 40 years of trying… But of course, now she was here.
She originally had no plans to audition for the show. It was her mother, Margaret, who intervened and convinced her to take the leap. Margaret went as far as to write a letter to Simon Cowell, which Sue begged her mom not to send since she intended on retiring.
“After 40 years of trying for a break, I came to the decision I wouldn’t sing anymore,” Sue told Mirror. “The next day I found a letter my mother had written to Simon. I said, ‘I’ll be mortified if you send it.’”
After begging, her mother agreed not to send it. They forgot about it until her mother unfortunately passed in 2013. After that, Sue dug up the letter, which read: “My daughter has a great voice, I’d like you to hear it — I’m 80 and it would make my life.”
Sue went on to explain that after that, she reconsidered her retirement because of her mother. “I did it for my mum, I read it and just thought, go on then I’ll give it one more go,” Sue said.
When her time finally came to audition for the show, she tried to figure out what it was that would help her stand out from the rest of the competition. It was obviously important to her to make a strong impression with a whole lot of drama.
So what did she do? She made one hell of an entrance.
Sue was the last person to audition. When the time finally came to perform, she did something different from the rest — she started from the back of the theater. Everyone began to look around with confusion at first. While she was in the audience, she began to sing the classic Barbra Streisand hit, “Don’t Rain on My Parade.” Judges Simon Cowell, David Williams, Alesha Dixon, and Amanda Holden, were intrigued, to say the least.
As she sang, she elegantly made her way to the stage. To go with her song choice, she fittingly wore an old fashioned boa scarf and dark, sequined dress. Everyone began to cheer her on and clap and sing along — including the judges. At one point, the crowd began to dance as well.
After her performance, she scored an easy yes from all four judges. Walliam loved the performance so much, he ended up dancing on the table and then — wait for it — pulling down his pants to reveal his tighty whities!
Simon’s face? Absolutely mortified, in classic Cowell fashion.
But it was worth it because it made for one hell of a reaction and we know Margaret would be proud. Watch the full video below.
