Simon tells boy he’s “like Susan Boyle’s grandson” after hearing him sing

“Hello, ‘Got Talent’, my old friend.”

“I came to perform with you again.”

Of course, this is not how Simon and Garfunkel’s iconic song sounds, but it perfectly captures the amazing journey of one contestant.

Meet Tom Ball.

Tom Ball is unassuming.

He has a warm cheeky smile, rosy cheeks, puffed cherub-like hair, and bright eyes. But underneath the sweetness is a vocal prowess that can wow any audience.

Ball’s passion, among all of the things he’s good at, is teaching. Ball is a 24-year-old high school teacher who first got his break when he joined Britain’s Got Talent.

His motivation stems from his passion to teach.

For Ball, if one can reach further than their dreams, then one can serve as an inspiration to those who are watching then which, in Ball’s case, is his students.

Ball went to America carrying that thought.

He even admitted that his experience in America became a bit terrifying when Simon Cowell, one of the judges, said what if his America audition went badly?

He wanted to surprise his students but when the realization washed over him, Ball became a bit nervous about his audition.

Nonetheless, Cowell was excited to see Ball onstage again.

The moment Ball entered, Cowell glanced at his fellow judges and kind of gave them a heads up of what they were about to witness.

Ball started with a solemn rendition of Simon and Garfunkel’s Sound of Silence.

The quartet that performed with him played subtly at first but Ball took it to a different level.

He sang the song in high and powerful pitches. He even sang it in an arrangement that perfectly fit his vocal range, playing with notes and the tempo.

The judges’ jaws dropped in astonishment.

As the performance ended, Cowell could only say that he was angry at Ball’s performance.

He said that he wished it was his first time hearing Ball so he could just immerse himself into the unforgettable experience.

Ball, who Simon named as “Susan Boyle’s Grandson”, didn’t win Britain’s Got Talent.

But Cowell said if he sang his rendition of Sound of Silence that year, he would’ve won it.

There were no regrets, though.

Cowell still called Ball’s performance the best he has ever since thus far in the entire leg of the competition and his fellow judges readily agreed.

In the end, they called on the show’s host and together, they pressed the golden buzzer for Ball. It was indeed a well-deserved prize for his performance.

People all over the internet shared their thoughts about Ball’s performance.

They left nothing to be desired.

“This wasn’t an audition. This was a concert. Absolutely stunning!” said one comment.
