Single dad’s card is declined but woman behind him refuses to let him leave without food

It might not seem as though there are many good deeds done these days but they do happen. These acts might not make it on the news but they matter.

The more good deeds we do, the better our world becomes.

Sara Fleming was inspired to do good.

Sara Fleming heard a voice in her head guiding her to do the right thing. The man in front of her in line at the grocery store had just had his credit card declined. He was a single father and while Sara didn’t know him, she knew he needed those groceries.

She heard a voice inside her head tell her to trust it, and she put the man’s bill on her credit card. The total came to $94.10 but it wasn’t about the money.

Sara shares her touching story.

Sara believes that God connected the dots between her and the man in front of her at the grocery store.

“Sweet friends, this is a true story. I’m sharing for others to hear of God’s goodness and mercy. It’s not about me. Great things HE hath done!” Sara shared.

It was 10 PM and the man was trying to reach the bare minimum of what he could afford. He would ask the cash register to remove items to lower the bill but it still amounted to more than he could put on his card.

“I watched as the man in front of me asked the cashier to put things to the side. Over and over again. He kept swiping his card. Declined.”

Sometimes you just have to do the right thing.

Imagine being in Sara’s position. She has responsibilities, she has things she needs to purchase with her money. Then she sees this man, clearly struggling to provide for his family. Many people, perhaps even most people, would have brushed off the man’s struggles and decided it wasn’t their business. That’s not what Sara did, however.

“There was a girl and boy with him, and I heard them call him ‘Dad’ several times. The girl was a pre-teen, and the boy was about my son’s age. I could see the embarrassment written all over their faces.”

“Pay for these groceries”

Sara heard a voice in her head tell her to pay for the groceries.

“It doesn’t matter if you don’t have the money…I’ll provide. Trust Me,” Sara says the voice told her.

But Sara hesitated. What if her act of generosity was embarrassing to the man? The voice returned to reassure her, however.

“That small voice still called again. Another shove. Stronger this time. ‘I’ve got it,’ I blurted out loudly, as heat flooded my face.”

A thankful single father.

Sara told the cashier to put the man’s food, all of it, on her card. The dad broke down into tears. He was so thankful.

“I don’t know how to thank you. I’m a single Dad. It’s so hard,” he said to her.

She reassured the man that this was what God was telling her to do and that she had been in the same place as him before.

“It’s okay. I wanted to help. I know it’s what God told me to do. And I have been there,’ I replied quietly.”

Sara and the family she helped meet in church.

Just a couple of months after this, Sara spotted the man and his 2 children at her church. They were sitting in the same pew. Seeing the man in her church had an emotional impact on Sara.

“I never told him I was a Christian. I never even told him where I went to church. The same One who brought this Dad and his family to my church that Sunday.”

Sara would continue to say that what happened here isn’t about her, but rather what God guided her to do.

“Glory to the Lord God Almighty, great things HE hath done.”

Simple acts of kindness like this can spread so much positivity into our world.

We should all spend more time looking for opportunities to be kind.
