Single mom tells son she only has $20 for new shoes then an “angel” makes them an offer
It was just a pair of comfortable shoes, but for one young man, the incident made him believe that angels really do exist.
Two people are at the center of a viral Facebook post.
None of them expected things to blow up but it just goes to show that an act of kindness doesn’t go unseen.
In Boise, a then 11-year-old kid named Zach Stone was perusing for shoes at a discount store in Meridian. He was having a hard time choosing, however, because he’s not as flexible when it comes to budget.
“I had the same shoes for about nine months and the bottoms of them were destroyed,” Stone said to KTVB7.
And as much as Malisa Manguso, his mom, wanted to buy him a good pair of sneakers, she has to explain that budget was a bit too tight.
He only had $20 and needed to be wise about what he was going to choose.
Unbeknownst to the family, a man was just an earshot away from them. Lito Mason heard the family’s predicament and decided that he was going to be the change he wanted to see in the world. He walked towards the family and suggested a proposition.
“She was working with a budget and I get that, we all get that at this time of the year, back to school,” said Mason to the news outlet. “I asked him, ‘so what type of shoes do you like?’ He said ‘I just want something that’s comfortable.’ I was done! At that point, I said I’m going to get him whatever he wants.”
Manguso couldn’t believe her eyes at that moment.
A total stranger approached them and wanted nothing but to help.
“He just out of the blue looked at me and said, I tell you what, that kid has to have good shoes on his feet and has to be looking good to go to Junior High. You just pick out the shoes, and don’t worry about the price,” the single mother shared. “For the first time in a long time, I saw Zachary light up, and be so happy.”
The family was extremely grateful for Mason as they never expected to be on the receiving end of kindness, especially during their difficult times.
“When we walked outside, Zach said mom I can’t believe he helped us, he helped us, he’s like an angel mom,” Manguso told KTVB 7.
To remember the moment, Manguso asked her son and Mason to pose together for a photo then she posted it on Facebook.
An act of kindness will never go unseen and Manguso’s post quickly went viral.
Meanwhile, Mason was still oblivious that he was already famous on the internet. That is until a coworker tagged him to the post. He was shocked at the reactions of the people and admitted that he’s naturally a shy person who’s not used to this kind of attention.
For him, he didn’t do anything extraordinary.
“It’s just something I wanted to do. For one time in his life, I didn’t want him to worry about a price, and it was simple as that,” Mason said.
He just saw an opportunity to help and grabbed on to it. What may just be a pair of discount store shoes for some is a ray of hope for Manguso and her son. Because that day, they were made to believe that kindness still exists.
