Six gorgeous sisters sing "Mary Did You Know" and stir hearts of millions
As if music groups weren’t already cool enough, these six performers make it even more interesting as all of them are sisters. Ever since they were young, they’ve been called a choir of angels, and if you take a listen at one of their performances you’ll quickly understand why.
One of their most recent performances, an a capella version of the song “Mary Did You Know”, has recently taken the internet by storm, just in time for the holiday season.
The music group – called Cimorelli – has already known massive success and is hugely popular, mostly on the internet. With over 5 million YouTube subscribers, they can reach quite the audience, but their “Mary Did You Know” video is most definitely one of the more popular ones. And it hasn’t even been out for too long yet!
Cimorelli is known for its incredible a cappella style performances and crystal clear, powerful and mesmerizing voices.
One thing is for sure: musical talent definitely runs in the family. And of course, right now is the time of Christmas joy, the holiday spirit and hearing festive songs and classic carols just about everywhere you go, and “Mary Did You Know” is one of them.
The song is an absolutely classic Christmas song as it addresses Mary, Jesus’ mom.
“Mary did you know, that your baby boy would one day walk on water?”
“Mary did you know, that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?”
The text was written by Mark Lowry back in 1984, and Buddy Greene composed music for it seven years later in 1991, when it was also released. Dozens of versions of the song have later been performed, including one by Kenny Rogers and Wynonna Judd, Cee Lo Green and another YouTube sensation, Pentatonix.
However, the Cimorelli rendition of “Mary Don’t You Know” is most definitely worth a watch as well, and it might even be the best one yet.
All of the sisters – between 19 and 29 years old – were raised in Nothern, California. Their family has a huge musical background, as their mom is a pianist who shared her love for music with the kids. They now reside in Nashville and have always been passionate about making music.
Just like every group, they started out quite small and had modest success. One day, a video of theirs went viral on YouTube and their newfound internet fame put them on a road to stardom. They’ve been able to live off their music ever since and even signed with a record label.
Singing “Mary Did You Know” holds a special meaning for the sisters Christina, Katherine, Lisa, Amy, Lauren, and Dani, as they call faith their guiding force in life. Of course, there are plenty of other songs that these six talented sisters have covered, including “Perfect by Ed Sheeran” and renditions of classics such as “Oh Holy Night” and “Silent Night”, if you’d like to stay in the Christmas mood.
Cimorelli also has its own original songs, and it’s really obvious that these songs were made for these six powerful voices in mind.
On their own, they sound absolutely amazing. But together? It’s a phenomenal harmony that really can’t be described with words, it’s something you have to listen to for yourself. And the internet absolutely loved this brilliant performance, in particular.
“I have heard so many covers of this song but I never heard one like this. It’s just perfect in every way, every note, and the harmonies Omgosh the harmonies from the lowest to the highest is just stunning!” one person said.
