Who thinks that cowgirls should have the same recognition at cowboys? Anyone who watches this performance will!
Americana is beloved across the entire world. The proof is in this video.
It stars a Slovakian dance group. They’re dressed up as all American cowgirls, and they dance to country music as good as any US citizen could.
The performance begins with the girls taking to the dancefloor. They all wear cowgirl hats and plaid shirts.
They form a line and put their hands to their hats. Then in a square dancing style, they hop to either side of the dancefloor, tapping their feet and moving their bodies to the song Thank God I’m A Country Girl by Village Girls.
The song stops, and a modern cover of the John Denver classic Take Me Home, Country Roads starts playing.
The girls’ dancing style changes in an instant. They all slow down, but their movements are more exaggerated than before. Then they start taking their hats off and on again as they sway back and forth.
Once more, the song switches, this time to Sideways by Dierks Bentley. The girls then form a triangle and move their hips to the beat. Then they stomp some more and role their hats off their heads with their hands.
Without warning, the song changes again, and the girls form a circle. They all place their hats in the circle. Then they link arms and dance around in a circle. After a few revolutions, the girls unlink their arms, pick up their hats and turn to face the crowd.
The girls link hands again, but this time they move across the dancefloor in a line.
Then the song changes to New Lil’ World by Luke Miltenburg. The dancers disperse from the line and clap to the song. Then they form a v shape on the stage and dance back and forth some more.
Next, the song switches to a violin ditty called Irish Party in Third Class by Titanic Orchestra. That is breaking with the cowgirl theme, but with moves this good, it doesn’t matter.
Lastly, the girls form a finishing position and raise their hands into the air. The crowd cheers and the girls give a bow to everyone there.
A little later, a video of the girls’ performance made its way onto YouTube. In no time at all, it had gone viral. To date, the video has gained over 3.8 million views. It also has over 27,000 likes and 350 comments.
People have been saying things like this:
When you see videos like this, you have to appreciate just how great dancing is at bridging cultures.
The girls in this video all live thousands of miles away from America. But they’ve embraced the culture and traditions of the Old West.
Who knows, perhaps one day the dance group will get to perform their routine in an authentic American setting? With moves like theirs, they’d be more than welcome!
