Smart cat senses that owner is having a baby
We are always surprised that animals know as much as they do. As a general rule, most pet owners understand that animals are usually smarter than we think they are.
For one woman, a karaoke session turned into a curiosity session for her cat.
While one woman had her feet up, enjoying some home karaoke, her cat decided it was time to investigate this strange bulge coming from his mom’s belly.
Walking slowly up to her, we see him absolutely fixated on her tummy!
Getting super close, he decides to give the belly-bump a sniff. After the searching sniff, he lays a gentle paw on her belly. With his work complete, he looks up and almost seems to acknowledge to his mom that he understands what is going on!
There is going to be a human-kitten on the way!
Thankfully, there has been some research into whether or not cats even know what pregnancy is. The cool part is that experts think they do! Cats have such sensitive ears and noses that it’s very possible they can hear the little heartbeat in a belly.
Apart from just the heartbeat, they can potentially sense other things.
As a body changes during pregnancy, there are certain chemical and hormonal changes that happen. The common hormones that are being produced include progesterone, estrogen, and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) hormones. With a super sensitive nose, a cat might be able to sense that!
They are also sensitive to heat, and when you increase your metabolism through pregnancy, you heat up!
Since cats love warmth so much, they may just want to snuggle more now that you have become a human heat machine! It’s very possible that with all these pieces put together, cats can easily guess that there will be a new human-kitten on the way.
People seem to have lots of experiences that back up that scientific belief!

“My sister has a cat that is the cantankerous sort of bitey type with everyone. Doesn’t really like to be touched. When she got pregnant he was super lovey dovey with her and never bit her the entire pregnancy. Then literally the day she gave birth was back to acting like a little butt hole to her. And now he’s always lovey and patient with my niece ever since she was a baby.”
Babies seem to calm everyone down, even cats that are historically cranky and bitey!

“The cat can probably hear a second heartbeat, they have incredible ears, example they can hear a tiny fly, while tv sets makes plenty noise, to mask it to human ears, and human would only detect it from half a meter or so.”
While we can’t be certain that cats understand, we can make a good guess!
