Shelter puppy learns how to turn on the charm and gives a big smile to anyone who passes by
Itâs said that a smile is a sure way to make friends. This little puppy took that knowledge to heart! Burreaux is a puppy at the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana and has become famous as the ‘smiling puppy’!
Living at the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana, this puppy has reached stardom!
Burreaux is a Shreveport puppy that has been showing off his pearly whites to possible adopters who have been at the shelter. Maybe the fact that the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana is a no-kill shelter has caused this little guy to grin so big!
âThat cute, cheesy little smile,â said Sarrah Walton, a volunteer. âItâs like a âcome pet me, come love meâ smile,â she said.
Only when someone reaches a certain octave their voice does Burreaux show off his teeth!
The shelter realized that Burreaux doesnât always sport his smile. They discovered that when someone is talking to him and hits a certain pitch in their voice, he begins to smile. Similar to the way that humans talk to babies in their âbaby voiceâ, when you talk to Burreaux in your âpuppy voiceâ you might be rewarded with a smile!
This puppy’s fame caused a flood of new people to take interest in the shelter!
After the shelter released the photos and story on their Facebook, the saw some serious growth! Accumulating over 40,000 new followers and a ton of inquiry, it may appear that they have a celebrity on their hands!
Using this new influence could allow the shelter to get more donations and be a literal lifesaver to other animals!
âWe only operate off of donations. Weâre not government funded,â she said. âWeâre âthe little rescue that could.â To have all of this attention, weâre hoping it will bring some donations and additional volunteers.â [SPT]
Named after LSUâs football team, Burreaux and his siblings are mascots!
Burreauxâs brother, Joe, and his sister, O, are named after the college football team, LSU! Joe is named after the quarterback Joe Burrow and his sister is named after a nickname for Coach Orgeron, Coach O!
Little Burreaux is named after Joe Burrow but with a Louisiana spin. Taking the âowâ out and replacing it with a local flair and subsequent âeauxâ.
Testing positive for Parvo, the little trio almost didnât make it.
Sarah picked up the puppies from a nearby shelter and took them to the vet. Discovering that all of the puppies tested positive for Canine Parvovirus, they needed to act fast.
âParvo is very, very deadly,â Walton said. âIt can easily kill a puppy if not treated immediately. Itâs a virus.â [SPT]
After being treated and back in good health, the puppies were taken to the shelter and taught some tricks!
Joe was taught how to play fetch after his return from the vet! I guess he was correctly named! Burreaux soon became popular after his âspecial skillâ was discovered.
âThe entire litter was friendly and sweet and they like to play,â Walton said. âBurreaux and his sister are starting to learn fetch, too.â [Walton]
With many different dogs being sheltered, this will help get the word out to people.
Adopting out more than 400 dogs a year, the shelter knows what it is doing! More than just the famous puppies, The Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana encourages everyone to consider donation or adoption!
