Meet Smudge, the real-life feline from the “Woman Yelling at Cat” meme

On the world wide web, you never really know what’s going to happen or what the next big trend is. In terms of memes, 2019 was definitely the year of the “woman yelling at cat” meme, which has been massively used all over the world – and it’s definitely not hard to see why. After all, you can truly make anything out of this meme since its versatility is pretty high.

Just in case you’re unfamiliar with the popular meme, on the left side we see a woman yelling and the right half of the meme features a cat in front of a dinner plate with salad who looks very confused and disgruntled.

It’s just a hilarious thing to look at!

The image on the left was actually taken from an episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The origins of the other half of the “Woman Yelling at a Cat” meme were a little bit harder to find, but the feline was finally identified as Smudge the Cat.

Miranda posted the photo of the confused-looking cat on Tumblr back in 2018, but it wasn’t until someone else took the image and combined it with the Real Housewives screencap in 2019 that it turned into a viral meme. “Woman Yelling at a Cat” was born and the combination of the two photos became unstoppable.

Now that Smudge has gained so much internet popularity recently, his owners thought it was time for the world to meet him!

Smudge’s owner never thought that a simple yet funny dinner picture of himself would actually be seen across the world, let alone be used in one of the most popular memes of the past year. In fact, Smudge has already capitalized on his internet fame with his personal Instagram-account, where he keeps no less than 1,5 million followers up to date with his funny adventures, photos, and videos.

The cat’s owner, Miranda Stillabower, has answered one question that has been on everyone’s mind: Smudge actually really dislikes vegetables!

“He only eats meat so I would have to say that he’s always hated vegetables,” Miranda told CTV News.

At restaurants, Smudge also aways needs to have his own seat.

“He will freak out if he doesn’t have his own chair,” she added.

The popularity of Smudge has even captured the attention of many celebrities.

Snoop Dogg is a big fan, for example, and John Cena has even graced his own Instagram-followers with a picture of this salad-disapproving cat. There’s even a whole merchandise section for Smudge, with coffee cups, shirts, sweaters, and baseball caps. ‘Smudge Lord’ is worldwide and is here to stay!

“At first it was just kind of something funny and now everybody across the world knows who he is. It’s just insane really,” Miranda said.

Of course, people are mostly interested in Smudge’s eating habits. Miranda has posted plenty of pictures of a distressed-looking Smudge when he’s facing a plate of salad, but it turns out he’s not really a big fan of nachos too. He’s clearly a picky eater!
