Sneaky shelter cat is put into “solitary confinement” after helping all the other cats escape

Right, we knew that cats are super smart animals, but we had no idea how rebellious they can be at times. And then came Quilty, who taught us that cats can be just as revolutionary as humans when necessary.

So, this is Quilty, the 7-year-old cat, who was put in solitary confinement after helping all senior cats “escape” from one room in the shelter he was kept at.

Last year, Quilty was brought into the Friends for Life Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. Rumor had it that when he lived with his former family he used to open doors. However, the staff at the shelter didn’t pay much attention to that piece of information and put him in a room along with a dozen or so senior cats.

From the very first day he arrived, something really weird started happening. In the morning, the staff found the cats roaming the rooms of the shelter freely and had to pick them up one by one to put them back.

“We would come in in the morning and have to collect all 15 of the cats who had had a blast during the night,” Jennifer Hopkins, the communications lead at Friends for Life, told CNN.

After some time, they decided to take a look at the security cameras and, guess what, they found out it was Quilty! He used to jump up and pull the handle down on the door, and so he set himself “free” along with his friends.

The staff had to take some extreme measures, and they put him in “solitary confinement” in the lobby of the shelter while they “Quilty-proofed” the premises.

Judging by his face, he didn’t like his new room one bit!

The staff also posted a photo of the cat on their Facebook page. After that, it was only a matter of time until the first request for Quilty’s adoption came in. And they kept coming, although Hopkins explained that he might be a difficult cat to live with.

Sometime later, Quilty was taken home for a while by a family who had two dogs, and the trial period seemed to be going great. The adopter said that the cat was doing great, loved snuggles and cuddles and he even crept under the bedsheets like a dog.

“He doesn’t really like the 2 dogs but they leave him alone so there aren’t any problems really, he just doesn’t want to have anything to do with them. I am hoping with a little time, he will get used to them. He hasn’t shown any slickness at all yet; he is the most loving and affectionate cat I have ever met!”

Eventually, Quilty was adopted by a beautiful family, who have been living the good life with him.
