Soldier 'pays back' horse after he helped him overcome loneliness 15 years earlier
Being away from home isn’t easy. And if you’re a teenager, making adjustments can be twice as difficult. You’ll feel lonely and anxious.
Ezphia Rennock was assigned to be a member of the Queen’s Guard when he was just 17 years old.
Although the job gave him so much honor, adjusting to it for the first time wasn’t easy. He experienced loneliness as he was away from home at such age.
There, he met Agricola.
A “proper troublemaker”, the horse was extra picky when it comes to humans. In fact, he used to throw people off him.
However, with Ezphia, Agricola was different.
The horse accepted him and eventually, they were able to become really close. They treated each other as friends.
The pair served the British Army for around seven years.
Through those years, they relied on each other for comfort and support. They were always by each other’s side.
In 2007, Ezphia had to retire.
The military man started a family. And because of his retirement, he had to be separated from his precious Agricola. As he left, he thought that they won’t be able to see each other again.
Then, Ezphia received an unexpected call.
It was from one of his friends who was still actively serving. The news made him feel excited.
Ezphia’s friend from the Knightsbridge Barracks told him that Agricola was set to retire.
Right after hearing the news, Ezphia visited the horse. There, he asked how he can adopt his precious friend.
Unfortunately, he was told that he had to enter a bid to be able to adopt Agricola.
Even though he knew that he won’t be the highest bidder, Ezphia tried his best to fulfill his promise to his friend. Along with his bid, he attached a heartfelt letter telling about the pair’s story.
Fortunately, the handlers chose him.
Ezphia managed to bid £1,000. The highest bid, on the other hand, was £5,000. The difference between the bids was high but the handlers still chose Ezphia to pick up Agricola.
Eventually, the pair got reunited.
And the minute they saw each other, it was like they didn’t spend time apart. Agricola recognized him in an instant as if the man didn’t leave him.
Ezphia shared the wonderful news on his Facebook account.
There, he said:
“This horse helped me through tough, lonely times away from home as a young man. Today I pay him back.”
Ezphia makes sure that Agricola gets to live a really good life after working hard.
The horse is staying in one of the queen’s yards. Ezphia rented it for his special friend. Each day, he visits the Dutchy yard with his daughter.
Their story touched people’s hearts online.
One particular YouTube user said:
“Thank You both for your Service and I hope you spend many happy years enjoying Agricola’s retirement.”
“That’s fantastic. Hope you have many years together”
