Young girls sing to the Queen then soldier Dad walks in the room
To commemorate service members who have lost their lives in armed conflicts around the world, the Royal British Legion hosts the annual Festival of Remembrance. As a part of the festivities in 2013, a group of young singers was chosen to form the singing group The Poppy Girls.
To thank the young girls for their efforts, a special surprise was planned for one of them.

During the festival, the girls performed a song specially written for them, “The Call (No Need to Say Goodbye).” Watching their performance was none other than Queen Elizabeth herself. The purpose of the group was as a sort of thank you to all of the men and women who had sacrificed their lives for their country.
Megan Adams
The group was made up of five young singers. Megan Adams was the daughter of Lieutenant Commander William Adams, who was currently deployed in the Indian Ocean. Megan had some experience, having begun singing the year before being chosen for the group.
Bethany Davey
Bethany Davey’s father, Lance Corporal Dean Davey, had served in the Royal Lancers and 151 (London) Transport Regiment, Royal Logistics Corps. Before joining the group, Bethany, age 10, had trouble performing in front of crowds and was considered shy.
Charlotte Mellor
As for singer Charlotte Mellor, she had moved around to a variety of places during her youth. Now, at the age of 17, she was one of the older members of The Poppy Girls. This was because her father, Wing Commander Paul Mellor, had served at many different locations during his career in the RAF.
Alice Millburn
Alice Millburn, age 13, has always had a love of music, as well as being able to play the piano and the ukulele. Her father, Captain Philip Milburn had served in the Royal Navy while her mother had served in the RAF.
Florence Ransom
Florence Ransom’s father, Lieutenant Ben Ransom, had also served in the Royal Navy. Florence, who was 10 at the time of the performance, was following in the footsteps of her mother, who was a singer in the Military Wives choir.
A special surprise
After their performance, the presenter had a special announcement for one of the girls. It seems Megan’s father, Lieutenant Commander Adams, who wasn’t due back for at least three months, was actually there at the festival. As he walks out, Megan can’t help but run to her father.
As they embrace, you can tell that they have missed each other so much. It is a bittersweet reunion for Megan and her father and has made the whole night that much more special.
