Soldier gets donations to help bring home the puppy she cared for while overseas

When you are stationed overseas, making friends is something instrumental in keeping sane. Whether that means making human friends or a furry one, however, isn’t specified! One American soldier is currently raising money to bring back a friend she made while on tour.

According to Char, a stray dog would often hang around the base she was stationed at, looking for food and comfort. One day, however, they realized she was pregnant! Not too long after, the stray dog gave birth to a litter of puppies right on base.

The soldiers on base decided to take the dog and pups in to better care for them.

Most of the puppies were happy and would run up to the soldiers without any hesitation. One pup was different. Naming her PupPup, the small dog was anxious around so many people and acted differently than her siblings.

Sergeant Char realized that the scared pup would need special attention and decided to give it to her!

Soon, Char was the only human that PupPup would tolerate being around. They became fast friends and were always together. It got to a point where Sergeant Char had unofficially adopted the little dog. Unfortunately, that friendship was about to be tested.

All things come to an end, and Sergeant Char’s tour was almost up – she was going back home.

“This spot can be very harsh to dogs and I fear she will die if she is left behind. Plus, we have formed such a strong bond that means everything to me,” she shared. “I can’t turn my back on her and would be forever grateful for the help to get her home.” – People

When she realized that she wasn’t going to be taking home PupPup with her, Char started asking for help. She knew she couldn’t live with herself if she left the dog that trusted her so much to fend for herself. Reaching out to Paws of War, Sergeant Char looked for a solution.

Paws of War is an organization dedicated to helping dogs get back to the US and pairing rescue dogs with veterans who need a therapy animal.
