Soldier shows up to little brothers school with the best surprise plan
Having a little brother means that you will always have someone looking up to you. For Brett Beaver, serving in the military as an Army Private Second Class wasn’t the only role of responsibility he had – he was also an amazing big brother.
Max is Brett’s younger brother and is only 7-years-old.
For a 7-year-old with a brother in the military, it’s safe to say he thinks the world of him! The two are originally from Michigan but Brett was stationed at Fort Myers in Virginia for the last few months. They hadn’t seen each other in ages and it was tough on them.
Brett couldn’t wait to see his little brother and had something in mind for the reunion.
“It was the first thing on my list,” Brett said to MLive about visiting his brother upon returning to Michigan.
The entire family is military with multiple members enlisting over the years. Despite knowing what it would look like to serve, it was still tough for them to be away from one another.
They used Facetime to talk to one another while they were gone and it helped some but there is no beating saying hello in person.
“It’s kind of hard being away from home, because we really love each other,” Brett said. “The first person I would take a bullet for would be him.”
On top of the problems with Facetime, many of the family members are deaf as it runs in the family on their dad’s side. Max inherited that gene and was deaf himself. As a result, Brett learned sign language to better talk to his brother.
When Brett got back to Michigan, he kept the ordeal a secret so he could surprise Max.
Knowing that a surprise would make his year, Brett went to the school to say hello. The staff, however, had no idea who he was!
“I just walked in and they were like, ‘Who are you?’” he said.
When he explained the situation, they knew that Max was going to flip out and agreed to help with the surprise.
“They asked, ‘Does he know you’re here?’ and I said no and they got all excited.”
Brett hid behind a door to make sure he wasn’t spotted, then waited for the moment.
A staff member from the school brought Max into the room and told him they had a surprise to show him. As they motioned him into the room, the staff held their breath.
When they saw one another, it was an emotional mess, albeit a beautiful one.
Max tried to hold back his tears so his older brother wouldn’t see him, but it just wasn’t going to happen!
“What’s wrong? Don’t cry,” said the older Beaver brother to Max. “He’s like, ‘I’m not crying’ and then he just hides (his face) away.”
The moment was so touching it’s easy to understand why the video blew up and went viral!
The “viral moment” wasn’t about the fame for Brett and Max, they were just happy to see one another.
“By far, the greatest moment of my life,” Beaver said or the reunion.
