Neighbor cats fall in love and go viral for their courtship and adorable dates
Scottie and Sophie were a great Instagram love story – partly because they were cats.

Both were Boston-area rescues whose yards backed up onto each other.
The first time Scottie saw Sophie she was walking her owner around the neighborhood while on a leash.
It was love at first sight.

“I remember when I first started taking her out on the leash Scottie would come over and watch from across the lawn or driveway without coming too close,” Sophie’s human mom Christiana told Love Meow.
From then on, they’d admire each other from their respective yards first thing in the morning.
“Our backyards meet so we can easily see when each other are outside,” Christiana told iHeartCats. “In the morning the first thing I do is open the door for Sophie to be able to see into the backyard… many mornings [Scottie is] outside and they watch each other from [their] yards.”

Sophie’s family had no intention of making her famous (other than posting hundreds of photos of her online). On their website, her owner explained:
“She became famous by accident with us just posting pics of how adorable we thought she was to our friends. People enjoyed following her adventures outside on her leash and gained many more followers when the “boy next door” cat named Scottie started coming over to visit her.”

Sophie also went viral because “she slept in a tiny IKEA doll bed that she got in ready to be tucked into each night that everyone fell in love with.”
Now that’s sweet!
Once Scottie got up the courage to approach and play with Sohpie, the couple was inseparable.
“Sophie was too busy for him… but soon he became bolder and would sit closer like he was waiting for an invite to join in. Sophie didn’t seem to mind he was there as long as she didn’t have to pay attention to him much.”

There are endless photos of handsome Scottie admiring his “girlfriend” on Sophie’s Instagram page.

They gained attention as a pair when Sophie’s owners posted a video of the two meeting for their typical evening rendevous.
Scottie would come sit outside the door each night and Sophie would bound out of the house to play with him.

But not all love lasts forever.
In June of 2017, Scottie and Sophie were separated by the Rainbow Bridge when Sophie passed away at the age of 6 after a brief illness.
Fans of the couple were heartbroken to see Scottie still come by to try to visit his love.
Luckily, her humans were still there and everyone got to comfort one another.
