Special needs dog stood up by potential adopter wins internet over with utter sweetness

Dogs can suffer from a variety of conditions just like their owners. For some dogs, this is in the form of spina bifida, a deformation of the spine due to the malformation of the spinal cord during pregnancy. And while the condition can affect a dog’s ability to walk, they are normal in all other ways.

Bulldogs, in particular, can suffer from spina bifida, but one rescued bulldog with the condition was able to rise above his condition and find a forever home. But it almost didn’t happen, thanks to a potential adopter pulling out at the last minute.

Jack was a special rescue

The 9-month-old American bulldog, named Jack, had been rescued by Peaches Bully Rescue in Ohio. When the organization first rescued him, they gave him the emergency veterinarian care he needed. Then the adorable puppy was placed in a foster home to get him ready for adoption.

Jack turns out to be very personable

While Jack has to wear a diaper and has limited mobility, he is very playful and loves to meet new people.

β€œHe has so much to offer a family and so much love to give but his special needs seem to scare people away,” Peaches Bully Rescue said in a Facebook post.

Time to find Jack a home.

Knowing that finding a good home for Jack would be a challenge due to his condition, the nonprofit organization was elated to hear that someone was interested in adopting the lovable bulldog. His foster family even went to the trouble to drive him 40 minutes to meet his new family.

A false start

Unfortunately, the person set to adopt him never showed up.

β€œJack was very sad when his meet and greet person was a no show, no call. He had a bath, got his fancy harness on, had a fresh diaper, and a dedicated foster team that drove 40 mins each way just to end in huge disappointment,” the organization posted.

Jack’s story touched the hearts of many.

After posting about what Jack had gone through on its Facebook page, the organization received over 600 inquiries of people asking about Jack. The organization also had 200 people apply to adopt the puppy. And at least a dozen kind-hearted people donated money to the rescue to help care for Jack.

Finding the perfect home for Jack was of utmost impartance.

But finding Jack a home was more than just placing him in the first available. Any home he went to would require special considerations. The organization felt that Jack would do best in a home with no other dogs or one who was at least the same size as him.

Long walks were also a no-no due to Jack’s condition.

After carefully examining all of the applications, one was found that was a perfect fit for Jack and his special needs.

He also has a human sister to keep him company and help take care of him.

And so, after much care and support from the staff at Peaches Bully Rescue and people all over the world, Jack was finally going to his forever home.
