Nine decades and two species separate Sally and Brody, and yet they’ve still become best friends.

Some dogs meet someone and instantly form a special, unique bond. That happened with Brody when he was still a puppy. This special person was not his owner, but his owners’ neighbor.

In Mount Vernon, Dave and Edie Mazzarella had always been very close with their neighbor, Sally. In fact, they’d formed such a strong friendship that the two households had even removed all fencing between their homes.

Dave, Edie and Sally thought that no one could become as close as they were. But then Dave and Edie got a puppy, Brody.

The 12-week-old Brody was keen to start exploring his new home right away. One of the first things he did was walk up to the neighbor’s door and look inside.

Sally heard the dog panting at the door and let him in. She couldn’t believe how cute the puppy was. She let him in right away and started feeding him up.

“Sally and Brody just bonded. And it was beautiful.” – Edie Mazzarella.

And since that day, Brody wanted to spend all of his time with Sally. Every morning, he got up and ran over to Sally’s home.

Sally always happily greeted him and brought him indoors. If she ever delayed in opening the door, then Brody ran up to the windows to try and find her.

Brody and Sally did the same things every day. Once Brody was inside, they put on the news and watched their favorite weather forecaster give updates.

Then they tended to her yard. On Sundays, he also tried to go to church with her.

At first, Sally was feeding Brody bread. After a while, she bought some dog treats. But all that Brody wanted was more bread!

But then something terrible happened. Sally, at 94 years of age, suffered from a mild heart attack. She survived the ordeal but had to move out of her home and into a senior living facility.

In the senior living facility, Sally has been able to recover. But both Sally and Brody miss being able to spend time together.

“He was sad. Yeah, he was sad. He was looking for Sally and he didn’t understand where she went.” – Edie Mazzarella.

Even though a lot of time has passed, Brody still visits Sally’s former home every morning, hoping that she will be inside waiting for him. But of course, she never is.

Brody’s owners realized that for both Sally and Brody’s sakes, they had to keep the two best friends in contact. So every weekend, they put Brody in the car and drive him to Sally’s new home.

Sally and Brody may not be able to spend as much time together as they used to. But they cherish every second in each other’s company.
