Rescued starving horse can't contain her joy when running in a field for 1st time
It’s always sad to hear about animals that have been neglected, abused, or abandoned, but fortunately, there are some amazing people out there who work hard each and every day to stand up for animals in need and help them enjoy better, happier, safer lives.
And we’ve got a wonderful story to share about some malnourished and neglected horses who finally found their happy ending, thanks to the kindness of some true animal lovers.
The tale begins with the Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue. The workers there got an anonymous call about some horses in need of help and rushed to the scene to see what was going on.
When they arrived at the site in Dover, NY, the workers were heartbroken by what they found. There were three horses in total, named Rosie, Midnight, and Britt, and they were all in a terrible state.
Their ribs were visible, a clear sign of malnourishment, and they were living in small, cramped, confined conditions, without access to tasty grass, fresh water, or room to run around.
Deanna, the founder of LOHR, wanted to do all she could to help, and one of her fellow animal lovers, Amanda, volunteered to help out after forming a bond with Rosie, the horse who was in the worst condition of all.
The horses were loaded up and transported to some stables, placed under the care and protection of the LOHR.
Unfortunately, due to their poor health, they couldn’t just be set free in a field straight away.
They needed to be kept indoors and monitored, with proper food, water, and care to help them build up their strength, but the workers planned that as soon as the horses were ready, they’d be let loose in a huge field where they could finally enjoy the taste of freedom.
The horses were all given food, baths, and water, as well as grooming and cuddles too.
They seemed quite surprised to suddenly be receiving so much care and attention and didn’t even know how to react at times, but they gradually began to trust their new friends and started to gain weight too.
Eventually, it was time for them to be set free from the stables and allowed to run around!
Deanna and Amanda were both excited when the big day arrived, eager to see how the horses would handle having so much space!
They lined up all three horses in the paddock and held them in place, before finally letting go of the reins and granting the horses their freedom.
At first, probably due to their lack of experience and confidence, the horses don’t really move, simply sniffing around at the grass and standing by the fence, but within a few moments, they’re running happily all over the place!
It’s utterly wonderful to see the horses bounding free around their new home! And it’s lovely to see the smiles on the faces of Deanna, Amanda, and the other workers too.
They all did an amazing job nursing these poor horses back to health and giving them a second chance at life. See it happen in the clip below.
