Trooper finds missing 2-year-old girl alone on top of mountain

One of the scariest things for parents is to be away from their kids without them knowing about their whereabouts. And for those children who experienced it, it’s surely a traumatic moment for them.

This case is always crucial and dangerous for the kid involved.

That’s why when NY state trooper Brian Hotchkiss received the missing child report from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, he knew that they had to act fast. It’s a 2-year-old girl and her life was at stake.

The little kid had been missing for a period of time and the people from Ontario County knew that they needed to contact the right people. So aside from collaborating with NYS police, they also contacted “a sheriffs K9, drone, and investigators”.

Time was running out for them.

It was 5:18 p.m when the 911 call center knew about it and as time was going by, it was getting more dangerous for the kid. It was already getting dark and colder.

“These missing kids, it can go really bad. It’s time-sensitive depending on the time of year, so although it was a nice day, the temperature was dropping,” he stated.

Hotchkiss and another trooper tried their best to get to South Bristol as fast as they could.

All of them made sure to find the child in many ways they could.

Hotchkiss knocked on the neighbors’ doors and checked if the girl was there. He also made sure that he didn’t miss any spot so he and his fellow troopers climbed the mountain. They also checked every spot of it.

“I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night if I didn’t check. I kept climbing and climbing after about 45 minutes of the climb, I looked up to the summit of the mountain and all I could see were trees and dirt,” he said.

When he was already on top of the mountain, he noticed a “pink dot” between the trees. He then climbed up through trees and followed the stream. That’s when he saw the little girl.

“She was laying on her stomach on a rock,” he recounted.

The little girl was probably needing some help ever since she got there.

And when Hotchkiss was there to rescue her, she immediately trusted him and let him carry her.

Hotchkiss shared the kid’s reaction upon seeing him. He said:

“She hugged me and she wouldn’t let go.”

Hotchkiss and his fellow troopers made sure that the kid was all safe.

One of them even wrapped the child with his uniform. Then, an ambulance came to the rescue and brought the child to the hospital.

The good news is the little girl is healthy and safe now. Good thing, Hotchkiss found her at the right time. It’s because if he was a little later, the result could have been worse.

Thanks to the troopers and the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office for responding as fast as they could. It’s clear that saving people’s lives is their number one goal.

We can definitely count on them anytime.
