Father and son dance leaves the judges in tears as their wild routine earns a Golden Buzzer

Not only are there multiple “Got Talent” shows around the world, but Britain’s Got Talent got a spin-off this year in which former winners and favorite participants got another chance to compete against each other in Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions.

Now, they don’t just take previous contestants from the British version of the show (which is technically open to all nationalities anyway). They drew from the whole “Got Talent” franchise which, in case you weren’t aware, includes: Nigeria, South Africa, Argentina, Canada, Dominican Republic, United States, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Israel, Mongolia, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia , New Zealand, Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic and Slovakia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom as well as regional shows for the Arab World, Asia, and East Africa.

So, as you can see, a British-Greek Cypriot father-son dance duo fits right in!

And in fact, Demetrios and his son Michalakis ‘Lagi’ Demetriou – also known as Stavros Flatley – are downright legends in the franchise. The audience was thrilled that the former fan favorite and 4th place runners-up from 2009 were back for another belly-baring performance a decade later.

Their talent? Well, they were propelled to stardom when Lagi was just 12 and the duo introduced themselves at the auditions only to disappear backstage and reappear with the elder Demetriou bouncing out topless in a blond wig and doing his best impression of Michael Flatley’s “Riverdance” routine.

Being joined by his pre-teen only added to the amusement.

Over the last 10 years, they’ve appeared on television shows and sold merchandise, but were clearly ready for their return to reality tv talent competition.

So what did their performance look like after 10 years of reflection?

It all started with some light flute music.

Then came the Celtic dancers.

It’s clear there’s a much higher production budget for auditions this time around.

And here comes dad yet again, looking not all that much different for being 10 years older.

Meanwhile, Lagi looks completely different and the audience goes wild.

A high-energy performance with backup dancers, drummers, and even pyrotechnics followed and had everyone cracking up. It’s certainly a hard act to follow!

The pair ended the performance by throwing their wigs towards the judges, who were all too pleased to join in on the fun.

When the hosts come out to give them microphones, a very winded Demetrios thanks the crowd – after he catches his breath.

“I can’t tell you how much you going mad for us makes us feel. But I want to say this show is amazing. We’ve been all over the world, we’ve done things and been places we never thought we’d be – and it’s ’cause of you guys.”

Some joking around follows and the laughs just keep coming from the charming pair. Even Simon Cowell can’t keep it together.

But when it’s time for his verdict, he speaks from the heart:

“Look, I’ve wanted to say this to you for years. I’ve really wanted to thank both of you for everything you’ve done … I want to be able to thank you and there’s one way I can do this.”

And that’s when the big moment happens – Cowell slams on the Golden Buzzer that rains down confetti, has the duo jumping and hugging, the crowd screaming, and Stavros Flatley moving on to the live rounds despite anything the other judges might say.
