Here's why you need to stop chasing success and start enjoying life
We all want to be happy in our lives.
This is one of the reasons why we strive hard. We think that when we become successful, we would be happy.
But the truth is when we focus too much on being successful, we also refrain ourselves from being genuinely happy.
We think that reaching our goals would bring bliss to our lives.
And we are willing to pay the price. That is to spend most of our time worrying about things that don’t really matter.
We work so hard every day to the point that we don’t get to take a break. We don’t realize that we are burnout. Is that what happiness means to us?
Well, there’s nothing wrong with working hard but the thing is – we should think if our tangible goals would really make our hearts joyful.
What does it take for us to be really happy then?
If you would look for answers on the internet, you will find a lot. Tchiki Davis, Ph.D. has written an article for Psychology Today and talked about the “23 ways to be happier”.
In the article, she mentioned that creating a “better work-life balance” is one of the ways to be happier. So if you really want to be successful, that’s fine. But don’t be too hard on yourself. Try to balance things and prioritize what’s really important.
Don’t spend the whole day working. Make sure that you also make time for the people you love.
When we chase success too much, we also tend to rush things.
And we don’t realize that we are missing lots of things that are important to us especially time.
In the same article, it says there that making positive memories can also make us happier.
How do we collect positive memories? It’s by having time for ourselves and for the people around us. It’s by doing the things we love with the people we love.
If you love to travel, make time for it. The experiences that you would get from traveling would always remain in your mind and heart, especially if you are with your loved ones.
Is it difficult to be happy?
It might be hard for other people but for some? It could be the other way around. These people probably choose to be happy despite many hindrances.
And it’s by appreciating the little things in life. These are the things that we think don’t matter but they do.
Let’s not forget that great things always start from small beginnings.
Sometimes, when we already reached our goals and we consider ourselves successful, we still crave for more.
It’s sad that many people don’t get contented. These people don’t know how much is enough. Truth be told, asking for more would never make you happy at all.
Hopefully, we would all realize if what really the things that would make us happy.
Yup, it’s easy to say “be happy” but it’s actually hard to do. That’s given.
But if we would start to be more appreciative and contented, then it can bring so much difference. And of course, do not sacrifice the things that are really important for the temporary ones.
