Great-grandma struggles raising 6 kids so strangers arrive with every gift needed
The most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner.
Christmas is always characterized by presents, carols, and cheer. It’s that time of the year when people love to give gifts, even to random strangers. And FOX5 Las Vegas’s Surprise Squad didn’t disappoint.
In this particular episode, they visit an elderly woman who was raising six kids.
Ms. Ella was a 72-year-old elderly woman living alone in Las Vegas, Nevada, raising six of her great-grandchildren. She said she rescued them because she couldn’t afford to lose them; they were her life and heart.
It was her dear friend from California who wrote to Surprise Squad.
Alicestine Miller lives in California and is Ms. Ella’s closest friend. She regularly checks up on Ella, and that’s how she knows of her struggles. She couldn’t help but try her luck and wrote to FOX5 to tell the story about how Ella deserved to be surprised.
Ella had no one to run to and only lived by the financial assistance given every month.
However, even with that, it was difficult to make ends meet. She also had a water and plumbing problem, which she could never get fixed because of the labor cost, but it was also the reason her water bills were piling up. She needed a lot of help.
And since it was Christmas, Ella couldn’t imagine how she would spend it with the kids.
She thought it would be sad, and she didn’t want to disappoint by not giving anything to the kids that Christmas. The loving great-grandma explained that she would have to settle some bills first and find a way to squeeze in some gifts.
Luckily, because of the Surprise Squad, she didn’t have to worry about gifts and much more.
FOX5’s Cassandra Jones drove to Ella’s house to surprise her with that knock on her door. She was in tears when she answered and saw Cassandra and the cameras. She knew what it was about. And a bonus for this visit? Alice was there!
They went inside and sat down for a quick chat – and a surprise.
Knowing everything she went through, the Surprise Squad pulled all the strings for a very merry Christmas for Ella and her great-grandkids. Bob Cleveland from Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada told her they would fix her water issues and pay off her water bill balance.
That alone already meant a lot to Ella. But the surprise wasn’t over yet! Cassandra told Ella and Alice that they had a pampering treat for both of them while they put a little Christmas cheer in her home. Little did she know that she would return with a much cheerier home.
FOX5 and the entire Surprise Squad came together to give Ms. Ella’s house a touch-up.
They provided new furniture from the living room to the children’s bedrooms. They put up decorations to make it feel like Christmas inside. Plus, some gifts for the children to open and a $500 gift certificate each.
When Ella, Alice, and the children went home, they couldn’t believe their eyes.
Ella was joyful, especially knowing their Christmas wouldn’t be as bleak and sad. And just like a cherry on top, United Nissan promised to pay her house rent for an entire year. What an incredible Christmas present!
